Overtime rate

Someone in the office mentioned today that overtime is now only paid at our normal hourly rate .
Is this true .

If you are on an old style contract then overtime is as follows
Normal hourly rate = £13.38 per hour based on 37 hours
First 10 hours of overtime = £13:14 (less than standard rate)

The rate drops even further after 10 hours but I am not entirely sure of the rate as I don’t work much overtime

New style contracts have an overtime rate of 1.25%

The overtime rate in Royal Mail is truly terrible as I know of no other company where you get less money than standard for working overtime !!!

on the new contracts do you have to work up to 40 hrs before getting the 1.25% overtime rate?

Yes, up to 40 hours is paid at the standard hourly rate.

I’ve spoken with a few at my office who are on those contracts, they said It’s very very easy to get OT in up to 40 hours, and near impossible to be allowed any OT over 40 hours. Needless to say all 3 I spoke up are looking for other jobs.

You have the CWU to thank for such a low o/t rate, in one of their past deals with RM, they agreed to a lower o/to rate in return for a higher basic wage

Get the rep on that if they are in the union.
Everyone should have equal earning opportunities.
Don't let management control the overtime system.

Surely that is better though. Some people don't want or can't do overtime so having a higher basic pay is fairer overall.

some people rely on overtime though, so no, i wouldn't say it was a fair system. when RM put this crap in, they knew they were on a winner because the job couldn't run without overtime.

And this is another reason why so many refuse to extend, and why back in the day (and I'm sure it still goes on) managers knowingly giving out 1 hrs work and paying 2 hours or no one would do it.
OT rate is a joke should be 16 at the very least.

You need to go back to about the year 2000, in was in a deal then.

Overtime costs jobs.
Why would any trade union agree to excessive overtime by its members to keep others on the dole?

the jobs been run on overtime ever since ive been there. its never stopped them before. when they decided an overtime ration a while back, the work started piling up, so they put it back on, but we, as an office decided on not participating in overtime to stick 2 fingers up at them....what did they do?....brought in agency staff to clear it at a higher cost than it would've cost them to pay us. they make me effing sick.
