Fatal incompetence at MSH

Post by ConeHater »

Unfortunate incident at Midlands Super Hub last week that seems unbelievable but heard from several sources so must be some elements of truth. A worker collapsed and an ambulance was called, then a chain of failure kicked in. The ambulance could not get through the gate for nearly 20mins, air ambulance could not land in the massive, empty yard, stretcher would not fit in lift, no-one could find a defibrillator - it was later discovered locked in an office. It should be hard to believe that such serious shortcomings could occur but, with Royal Mail, it isn’t. Anyone from the MSH know any more regarding this ?

We did hear about this last week. It’s very sad to be honest, I would have thought a safe system, in case of such emergency, would already be in place before the hub opened, and need to be passed by the HSE. I presume the gatehouse is manned all the time and not operated remotely

Is this the same super hub I read about the other week?
There was release by CWU regarding the inspection from the Health and safety executive.
The whole place was so riddled with bad to downright dangerous practices that it was pretty much within a gnat's whisker of being shut down.

That was the North West Super Hub, one would think that the Midlands would review Health & Safety as a matter of urgency after that !

So the complete abandonment of the company's duty of care to it's workers is absolutely systematic at this point.
I hope the relevant authorities are all over this.
Nothing we can say can bring back a colleague who would have been someone's partner, parent, child etc.
I for one would like to finally see someone be held accountable, and answering criminal charges for gross negligence or even manslaughter.
The rest of RM management may finally buck their ideas up, or realise they are not up to the responsibilities and step aside and let some grown ups take control

With the lack of cooling and ventilation in MCs (MCs just have a shitty system that just recirculates the air), wouldn't surprise me if it were the same in DOs, will we have to wait for people to die from heat stroke/heat exhaustion before RM do anything about it?

More likely to die from freezing in ours in the winter (esp whouse) where the heating always breaks just before winter.

Wonder what the inquest and HSE will have to say about this

My DO has had a couple of fans installed at one end of the building. Positioned above the only two windows we can open, which are blocked by the york's we sort parcels in to.
At least we have our own thermostat though, so unlike many others I read on here we can adjust our heating as we wish

Is that the one up north in Warrington ?

Did the victim survive or died ?

Lots of health and safety issues certainly need addressing as it could be the same in other RM buildings.

Surely if there was a death, the news would be all over it ?

Thoughts go out to the persons family

Someone has to tell the news first, and provide some evidence that the event happened
Then someone has to answer some questions that journalists will ask.

Unfortunately at the moment, as much as we can all be sure that the events did happen, and were in fact probably worse than described in the original post.

Without any sort of evidence, all the news might be able to report would be "there is a claim that a postie died at work, Royal Mail declined to comment"

Hardly headline worthy.

Now if someone was prepared and able to provide a big news organisation with a dossier of all the failings of management at all levels and the mistreatment and abuse of staff, they might decide it's worth doing an investigation

Im sure the union can highlight the event through their own media and telease it to the press pool for other news organisations to pick up on.
