Taking your break at the end-can we?

I do the school pick up. I've always taken my 30 mins at the end to make sure I get to school on time as I live far from my office. Today we are told (as well as the sick pay note thing) we must take our break during the day and cannot go home before our official end time. Is this enforceable? Can we be sacked for having our break at the end?

You are not allowed to take your full break at the end of your duty but you can take half of it .

You are not allowed to take your full break at the end of your duty but you can take half of it .

But you're meant to be on premises, so I believe? To answer the posters question, I think you're on a sticky wicket as our finish time is our finish time. It's on us to take our breaks. I know it's widely ignored as most just take 20 minutes off our official finish time, but you're meant to actually take your breaks rather than just take them off your finish time.

Sign in sign out will not know if you have taken your break. Just that you have left early.

I believe the working time directive is ..... You have to take a 15 mins meal relief before 6 hours work. Although Royal Mail have their own rules that you should stick to.

I do admit to being a little awkward, but at Royal Mail we have meal relief's not breaks.

Say you need to take your break at end of shift due to family duties. RM are supposed to support a family friendly policy. It means most of the people with kids in our office get all the Saturdays off? So you may be allowed to be an exception to the rule of having to take half during your shift?

I think the main issue is that the SISO will just see someone finishing early say for example by 30 mins, The COM might get instructed by their boss to add 30 mins of work to that person's duty (probably 30mins worth of lapsing)

They should have something on the PDA that you can enter to let them know when you are taking your break - what time precisely etc.
Would sort a lot of stuff out, least of all hassle off managers asking why you’ve stopped moving for half an hour, or like others have said, took half the break at the end of duty.

That's why it's important we all stick together.remember royal mail are trying to introduce later start .I don't have to pick up kids ,but this is what royal mail are trying to do get you to resign

That agreement is 2000 and well past its sell by date.
The Equality Act 2010 takes precedent over that agreement as one example.

With the breaks.

The Working Time Regulations state they entitle you to a 20 minute break if working six hours or more. That entitlement cannot be at the start or end of your duty, but?
Royal Mail also gives 20 minutes as a bonus with a contractual entitlement.

So no issue taking 20 minutes statutory entitlement half way through your duty and take a further 20 minutes contractual entitlement off the end of your duty, However, Royal Mail can stipulate when you take that 20 minute contractual entitlement such as prior to leaving and going on delivery.

Also Royal Mail can state when you take that 20 minute contractual break if you are working six hours or less as a duty with no 20 minute statutory entitlement.

Yes a something on the PDA to input your beak makes sense. I usually tie up and am out in an hour so don't need a break then. I don't have a van, am half an walk away from the office so don't want to stand on a street corner for half an hour, especially when it's raining.

Was told the same thing in our office,not allowed break at end ,is this a national thing .
