RM tearing up agreements

I have worked for RM as a postman for over 30 years on deliveries and like most of us i have had my fair share of run ins with managers but thankfully i have always been able to quote or print off relevant sections of agreements to back up my arguement which was usually enough to shut them up and send them skulking back to the coffee machine,but since we were told by the area rep that Royal Mail had ripped up the current agreements our manager is now going round telling anybody that will listen that there are now no valid agreements,,a couple of examples,your on a 24 hour contract 4.48 a day he says you are not allowed any meal break,whatever you take out on delivery he says you must deliver,no cutting off,
from a personal point of view im in my 60s and am only a couple of years off retirement so any management bull is wasted on me and they know it, but we have a lot of young part time staff now and when i offer them any advice on how to deal with a manager who is giving them a hard time (which they seem to think is part of there job now) that what i am telling them is correct.
Are there any actual valid agreements left that can be used that must be adhered to regardless of what Simon Thomson or the office manager or anybody else for that matter actually thinks is correct.

As far as I'm aware, and I may be wrong, RM have only given notice to tear up agreements, not actually done it ... Like I said, I may be wrong ...

If you stay out you'll have to have a break. I'm on a 24 hour contract and never get put on a duty under 6 hours so a legal break is likely every shift.

Also as jbo said, notice has been given, don't think it has been served yet.

Some managers hey! No agreement has been torn!

The key is to advice the postie to just take what he can deliver - that is hard but always go on the low side... The manager cannot force workers to be out there for as long as it takes but a bit of flexibility is good for both sides.

As for breaks, at least a 15/20 minutes break; official or unofficial, but postie can always take some sort of break (comfort or snack) on delivery.

They can't use the data to tell you off. But I'm sure they'd still use it as an indicator and get you another way.

The way I see it is this an agreement is only as good as those who abide by it respect it and enforce it so if Royal Mail manager said you have to work this that before you get a Meal Relief for want of a better example, And they don't abide by the sections that don't suit them we it is not an agreement is it. It is a pick and mix and how can we trust them if we do get an agreement but you must know these people are like the devils own they talk with killers like presidents and warmongers and tax fiddlers like JRM!

You or your rep should ask for it in writing. It will never happen as he is talking crap! No doubt he will deny ever saying that if confronted by higher up!
