Hayley was out doing her rounds when she got caught in the thunderstorm



Remarkable footage shows the shocking moment lightning struck behind a postwoman while she was out doing her rounds. Hayley O'Leary was delivering post to houses in the East Park area of Redruth yesterday (September 5) when she got caught in a heavy downpour.

She explained that she wanted to get a video of the rain, so took out her phone to start recording herself. In the footage, she jokingly says: "Wait for it, if I get struck by lightning now..." seconds before a bolt strikes right behind her, causing her to scream and duck.

Luckily, she was not hurt but Hayley said the lightning strike had caught her completely off guard. "There hadn't been any lightning before that moment. I just wanted to capture the heavy rain on video," she told CornwallLive. "It was a complete coincidence that I said about being struck by lightning right before the flash behind me."

As a postie, Hayley says she is used to being out in all kinds of weather and "absolutely loves" thunderstorms. "I've been a postie for nine years so I'm used to being out in the rain," she said. "The lightning yesterday caught me by surprise but I actually love thunderstorms."

Her footage comes just one day after firefighters in Cornwall released another incredible video showing the moment lightning struck a newly-built home at a housing estate under construction on the edge of Redruth. The footage shows the lightning bolt hitting the top of the roof of a house as sparks cascade down the house and the incredible sound reverberates around the estate.
