A HAMPSHIRE postman hopes to break a world record by running a marathon dressed in his work gear.
Wayne Bevan has worked as a postman for the past eight years of his life and calls himself a 'keen runner.'
In order to compete, Wayne has to wear his postman's hat, jacket, trousers, shirt, tie and carry a bag that should weigh between 10lbs and 20lbs.
He told the Echo: "It is going to be a very interesting day for me.
"I will be bringing my two little kids, parents, and wife on the day, so I am feeling a little nervous but excited.
"I have been training for the marathon for quite a while, and it's not the easiest course.
"It's a long way and anything can happen.
"I'll be wearing my hat, trousers, tie, and carrying the bag, which is going to be some extra weight.
"It's going to be tough, but I am ready."
Previously, the father of two used to work as the head chef of a restaurant in Eastleigh. But now, Wayne works as a postman for a delivery office in Winchester.
He added: "I love being outside and really enjoy the job."
Wayne has had a passion for running since his school days but only picked up the sport again six years ago.
The current world record for running a marathon as a postman is said to be 3 hours 44 minutes, however, he hopes to finish the race under 3 hours 35 min.
This is not the first time Wayne has tried to break the record. His previous efforts have been halted due to Covid and his initial attempt at the London marathon was cancelled last year.
When asked how it feels to be back on the field, Wayne said: "It feels great, to be honest."
Southampton's ABP Marathon will see thousands of runners race around the city in a bid to raise money for charity.
