Burglar pretended to work for Royal Mail during toilet request

The female victim discovered a sentimental jewellery box containing £11,000 worth of jewellery had been stolen.

A Northampton burglar who pretended to be a postman and asked to use the victim's toilet managed to steal jewellery worth thousands.

Between 10am and midday on Thursday, February 17, a woman answered the door to a man wearing a Royal Mail puffer coat.


He claimed to be her postman and asked to use her toilet, which she let him use before he left.

The woman later discovered a sentimental jewellery box containing an estimated £11,000 worth of jewellery had been pinched.

The man is described as white, about 5ft 11 and of a stocky build with a dark grey coloured beard.

He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a Royal Mail puffer jacket and navy bobble hat.


The jewellery box is described as a black and white woven cotton trinket box, with silver thread in a heart shape.

Among the items stolen were a small Rolex watch with a two-tone band of white and yellow gold alternating links


It also has a round face with diamond and pearl beading around the outside.

Other items included:

Yellow gold stud earrings with a diamond set in the middle of four smaller stones
22in yellow gold chain with a solid gold ingot pendant, which was engraved
Yellow gold ring with a rectangular transite diamond and clear diamonds on the shoulder
Yellow gold Pandora engraved bangle

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers would like to speak to anyone who may be able to identify the man, who may have seen someone fitting the above description in the area between the stated times, or who may have been offered such items for sale in unusual circumstances.

"Witnesses or anyone with information which could assist the investigation are asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101 or alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
