Andover old post office set to be converted into delivery office

A PLANNING application has been submitted for the change of use of former Post Office in Andover to a delivery office.

The application has been submitted before the Test Valley Borough Council to transfer the vacant area at 32 Bridge Street, Andover, into a delivery space.

The Royal Mail is already operating a customer service point from the building. If approved, the whole vacant area will be used for delivery sorting purposes.

The vacant area is currently owned by the Post Office, while the delivery services are run by the Royal Mail.


The description of the proposal, according to the planning application, reads: “Change of use of former Post Office (Use Class E) to Delivery Office (Use Class B8). The proposal seeks to extend the delivery office into the vacant area.”

The application also shows there are 70 full-time employees and 20 part-time employees currently working at the address.

The decision to change the post office area into delivery space is expected to solve the continuing delivery disruptions in Andover.

Recently, delivery services were severely disrupted in the region after the customer service point was closed for nearly two months due to a damaged roof and water leakage caused by a beehive.

The customer service point was reopened last week after the Royal Mail undertook necessary repairs and relocated the beehive.
