Family's thanks for kindness after Kinver postman dies at 33

THE family of a popular Kinver postman who died suddenly, aged just 33, have thanked the community for their kind donations.

Darshan Singh, who was based at Stourbridge's Royal Mail delivery office and well-known around his delivery beat in Kinver, passed away at home from pneumonia on July 16 having left work earlier that day - telling colleagues he felt unwell.

Mr Singh, who lived in Wolverhampton, leaves a wife, Kanwaljit Kaur, and two young children - a daughter, aged eight, and a son, aged four.

Collections in his memory and for his family saw £980 donated by colleagues at the Stourbridge delivery office and £1,500 donated in Kinver after colleagues at Potters Cross Post Office collected funds from villagers.

Darshan's brother-in-law Harbhajan Singh Swali said: "On behalf of Darshan’s family I would like to express our gratitude for the monies raised to help the family at this very sad time. It was very comforting to know how much Darshan was loved and appreciated within the community.

"Also a massive thank you to Potters Cross Post Office for arranging and collecting all contributions from Kinver village."

He and Mr Singh's wife visited the village post office on Monday (August 16) to say thank you to those who donated.

Colleague Denise Pullen, from Royal Mail at Stourbridge, described Mr Singh as "very likeable and very popular".

Glenn Morris at Royal Mail at Stourbridge said Mr Singh had worked for the last four years in Kinver where he was held in high esteem and he added: "He touched so many hearts of customers and staff."

A charity cricket match will be held in his memory at Kinver Community Association on Sunday September 5, starting at midday.

Everyone is welcome to watch the match. All proceeds will be donated to Mr Singh's family.
