Royal Mail intercepts 20K worth of cannabis posted to Bristol man's address

The householder has denied ordering the drugs to his address

A Bristol man told police he had no idea why some £20,000 worth of cannabis was sent to his home in St Anne's Park.

Royal Mail intercepted two packages from the USA containing 1.8kg of the Class B drug, addressed to 'C. Brimble' in Wootton Road, Bristol Crown Court heard.

But when householder Christakis Dimitriou-Brimble was interviewed by police, he said he knew nothing about them.

He also said he knew nothing about drug-related messages on his mobile phone, which he said he had just got second-hand.

Dimitriou-Brimble, 29, denies two charges of being concerned in the importing of cannabis between September and December 2019.

At a court hearing today (Monday, August 9), prosecutor Julian Howells said the first consignment was sent from San Francisco and intercepted by Royal Mail on October 23, 2019.

Dimitriou-Brimble told police he had no idea about the delivery.

Mr Howells told the court: "He suggested somebody else was using him.

"He said it was nothing to do with him."

The court heard a second consignment of cannabis from California, again addressed to C. Brimble in Wootton Road, was intercepted on December 16, 2019.

Mr Howells told the court: "Police went to the defendant's home and he denied ordering it."

Police then took possession of Dimitriou-Brimble's phone and found what they claim to be messages relating to drug dealing and importation, Mr Howells told the jury.

Though Dimitriou-Brimble said he had only just acquired the phone, it contained a message sent months previously in which he told someone he had been stopped for drug driving in Bishport Avenue - which he had been.
