Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed a 34-year-old man was arrested and released under investigation after the incident on June 19.
Police are investigating after a man was found inside a Royal Mail delivery office over the weekend.
Royal Mail postal workers arrived at the West Park Delivery Office at around 4am on Saturday, June 19 and unlocked the building.
When they entered inside, they were met with an unknown man inside the building and called 999.
Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the man had made off before officers arrived at the premises and an "untidy search" of the building had been undertaken.
A 34-year-old man from Plymouth was later arrested on suspicion of burglary, assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a Class A drug.
He has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.
Royal Mail confirmed none of its staff were injured during the incident and it is assisting police with enquiries.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a burglary at the Royal Mail’s West Park Delivery Office, in Plymouth at around 4am on Saturday 19 June.
"Staff found a man on the premises, who made off before officers arrived. It was also found that an untidy search had been carried out in the building.
"A 34-year-old man from the Plymouth area was later arrested on suspicion of burglary, assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a Class A drug and released under investigation, pending further enquiries."
Royal Mail said if "customers have any concerns about their mail, they should contact Royal Mail customer services".
