The people of Waverley have tried to help the popular Hermes employee
A Rotherham delivery driver has lost her job after her van was stolen.
The delivery driver, known only as Sue, was employed by Hermes and had been delivering parcels in Waverley, Rotherham on May 4 when her van was stolen, along with a number of parcels that had been stored in the back.
Residents living in Waverley were shocked to learn Sue was no longer working for Hermes.
Matthew Rimmington, who would regularly see Sue when she delivered his parcels, said: "She was delivering parcels when her van was stolen, so a few of the Waverley customers lost their parcels too."
Last week, Matthew, 28, decided to set up an online fundraiser to help raise some funds for Sue in the hopes that she might be able to purchase another van.
But in an update posted on the fundraiser yesterday, Matthew said that Sue had lost her job so he told South Yorkshire Live that he now wants to "raise awareness" and help her to get her job back.
The fundraiser has already amassed donations of £1,920 as other members of the local community rally around to help the popular delivery driver.
Matthew said: "She's a really good delivery driver, she's always loved giving the dogs a fuss and she always goes the extra mile to get your package to you on time and is apologetic if she's late.
"You can tell that she's always working really hard."
Sue had sent a heartfelt message to Matthew thanking him for setting up the fundraiser and telling him that she had "cried buckets and buckets" over the kindness shown to her.
She said that she "couldn't believe" how kind her customers had been and told Matthew how much she loved her job.
Sue even left a bunch of flowers on a bench in Waverley, thanking the members of the community for their support in this difficult time.
"To all the kind people of Waverley. Thank you for your support x", the card attached to the flowers reads.

A spokesperson for Hermes said: "We can confirm that this self-employed courier no longer delivers on behalf of Hermes, however this decision is not directly related to the ‘alleged’ vehicle theft.
"Our Service Provider Complaints Panel enables couriers to challenge decisions made regarding their service and raise any complaints they may have."
