Most residents in Salfords probably know Ollie Knight well as the smiling postman who always aims to deliver (writes parish clerk Claire Minter).

Salfords and Sidlow parish council presented Ollie with a good citizen community award in March, a few days before his semi-retirement from Royal Mail.

The council presents these awards to individuals who make a real difference to others.

Ollie has demonstrated outstanding effort, over a sustained period of time with his good deeds contributing to improving and making a significant difference in the community.

Ollie has been with Royal Mail for 37 years, having spent 28 of those years delivering in Salfords, Surrey. His routes have combined around the Copsleighs and for the last 11 years the Honeycrock Lane and surrounding roads area.

Ollie has been a part time gardener for the last decade and has been given an opportunity to increase his gardening hours working for a celebrity for a minimum of two days a week.

Ollie said: "Gardening is something I love and this was too good an opportunity to miss. I have hit retirement age so am sadly leaving Royal Mail to pursue my career in gardening."
