USO reform is years away though, is it not?
It's due in the next few months.
Sorry I was getting confused with the new ODM thing, I keep thinking USO reform refers to letters only 3 days a week - which they mentioned being a few years away.
In any case, it doesn't surprise me one bit they are panicking about having the numbers of driving staff to make the shift patterns work.

We’ve been told it’s coming “sooner rather than later”. They’re spending too much on trials for it to be trickled out. The timing of the purchase of the business seems a bit convenient as well. Once the ink has dried he can do what he wants with the company and the union will be powerless to do anything. I’m betting they’ll roll it out nationwide by September. Buckle in folks
Nope. Royal Mail are looking to push these changes through in a hurry whatever OFCOM say. Expect to be on the new system by the end of the summer and expect it to be a car crash
During the OFCOM consultation they stated that once they reach a decision regarding the future of the USO, it'll come into effect immediately. That consultation period is now over and Royal Mail is hoping for a response by July 1st. This could mean the changes being made from July 2nd onwards. Naturally you'd expect some sort of integration period but this hasn't been discussed anywhere so who knows what might happen.
Regarding the DHL and Evri merger, I read that DHL already delivers 1B letters a year, primarily to businesses. I expect it's unlikely they'd try to infiltrate the residential market as there wouldn't be enough profit to justify it. I don't expect it to really change the market at all.

Early summer for MC realignments to be done and in place so I'm guessing they want to get them changes bedded in before making the changes in DOs

It's a key feature of the ODM that the changes do not constitute modification to the USO. There will still be letters being delivered six days a week, just that it'll only be 1st class on a Saturday - which I think I'm right in saying is a return to Saturday spec as it was pre-Single Daily Delivery.
