No postie that doesn't want overtime wants to deliver 2 days mail each week for 3 years and counting.
What contract do u have
No postie that doesn't want overtime wants a round that is 30+ minutes too big for most of the year.
Goes without saying.
People want a manageable workload so that they have a sense of achievement at the end of the day, and so that they don't get whined at by management for bringing stuff back and so they can go home in peace and enjoy their EVENING![]()

Re: Overtime ban
Walks don't go out daily, so by watering down the USO to match the current state of affairs the QoS goes up. Problem solved! Top mathemagicians are working on it.postslippete wrote: ↑15 Jan 2025, 06:35I'm afraid what doesn't help is the parallel universe of CWU HQ who talk about improving "quality of service" yet agree to trials to suspend the mail for two days. What does improving the "quality of service" actually mean?
Although I don't know how that will save money when this has been the de facto level of service for half a decade and we still lose One Meelleeon Pounds a day.
The machine stops.

I’m worried about the Meelleeon Pounds a second because they’ve stopped mentioning it. Almost like it was made up.Mr Rush wrote: ↑17 Jan 2025, 23:12Walks don't go out daily, so by watering down the USO to match the current state of affairs the QoS goes up. Problem solved! It's as if Royal Mail can just lie and cheat and get away with it with precisely zero repercussions.Barnacle wrote: ↑18 Jan 2025, 05:01I’m worried about the Meelleeon Pounds a second because they’ve stopped mentioning it. Re: Overtime ban
I agree with you about mathemagicians because the losses in RM are misleading. The best way I can try and explain it is if you take £1 million in revenue but have invested £2 million in growth then the business will say that they have "lost" £1 million.
Amazon is a classic example of a business that never posted a profit for years but the reason is not because their business was not profitable; its because Amazon constantly reinvested its profits back into itself to scale up quickly, for example, by buying up land space for warehouses. This is exactly what IDS have been doing in the last few years by investing billions in these super hubs. It is called blitzscaling. IDS have been showing losses on their accounts and telling everyone that it is due to falling volumes of mail in RM because they want rid of the USO, but what is actually happening is that they are reinvesting these profits back into the overall business. GLS now covers over 40 countries from Austria to Finland to North America with over 1,600 depots and 120 hubs and last year entered a partnership with SF which has an extensive network in China and the Far East.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: Overtime ban
If you have a part timer on 30 hours over 4 days would they get preference on working a day off over a full timer on 37 hours. There is some unrest about it in our office. It’s to cover sick leave so is still allowed apparently. I think the agreement is the person with less hours would take preference. Anyone confirm.

Re: Overtime ban
Well ,that would be the sensible way of doing it, moving the part timers hours up to full time.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑18 Jan 2025, 18:24If you have a part timer on 30 hours over 4 days would they get preference on working a day off over a full timer on 37 hours. Re: Overtime ban
This is a thorny issue in our office too especially as overtime has been limited. For the sake of fairness it should be given to one and then the next time to the other. Managers are lazy and will always go to the same people so the unfairness has to be pointed out.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑18 Jan 2025, 18:24If you have a part timer on 30 hours over 4 days would they get preference on working a day off over a full timer on 37 hours. I’m certain there’s an agreement about it but I can’t find it.

Re: Overtime ban
Why should a full timer miss out just because someone is part time? No one knows the personal circumstances - The full timer could be the main earner in a household where as a part timer might have a husband/wife earning mega money elsewhere. If you happily take on a part time job I’d assume you don’t NEED full time work.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑18 Jan 2025, 18:24If you have a part timer on 30 hours over 4 days would they get preference on working a day off over a full timer on 37 hours. As you said no knows the personal circumstances (or the office circumstances) so you can't assume a part timer is 'happy' about the part time hours either - they also might be the main earner.Robk80 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 20:57Why should a full timer miss out just because someone is part time? If they want the hours then most newcomers at RM work FT even on a PT contract.Robk80 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2025, 20:57Why should a full timer miss out just because someone is part time?
