Remember when this was a forum about Royal Mail and working as a postie? There are plenty of other outlets for this goofy uneducated political shite.
How is it uneducated?
Should politics be the preserve of only a certain set of people?
No but it should be reserved for those capable of critical thought not just those who believe everything an internet meme tells them.
If Starmer is freezing to death millions of pensioners this Christmas link me to one news article reporting on the death of an OAP by exposure or because they can’t afford to heat their house.
Multi millionaire farm land owners was what i said. But yes, farmers whose land is worth over £1million are in fact millionaires. And if it is not, then they wont have to pay any inheritance tax. And most wont have to pay anything on assetts £3million or lower.
Personally i wouldnt change the inheritance tax rules as Labour have said they are going to do.

I’ll wait. There must be literally hundreds.
Well im not saying anything like that and hope i do bring some critical thinking and nuance to the forum.

Then why even quote me? This topic has no place in this forum dedicated to life as a postie but it is clear that the spreading of the far right reform party agenda has become accepted by the owners of this site. It’s fair enough but expect increased hostility if topics like this are encouraged.

So you are saying that those of us who don't support Labour are not entitled to an opinion ?

Only for far-left commies then ? (Sarcasm)
You read what you want to see. I’m not a supporter of this current labour government, but I’m not stupid enough to think they should have already turned things around, after half a year of being in power, reversing 12 years of shambolic tory government decimation of this country.
I am also not stupid enough to base my political opinions on internet memes made by far-right fascist smear groups, who make up things that aren’t true. I’m still waiting on all the news articles reporting on the pensioners that are keeling over left and right because they can’t afford to heat their homes. There is a reason for that.
Tax the rich more, especially those who have hoarded their wealth in property and have £10 million or more. Wealth inequality simply drives asset prices up and that means that more working people cannot afford to buy a house.
Those with £10million or more in the bank make it difficult for the twenty-somethings to buy an ordinary terraced house? I haven't noticed any ermine-clothed dukes or Bentley-driving industrialists moving in down my road yet.
Even odder is that some on here see nothing wrong with a nominally Socialist gov't hitting the most vulnerable in society first.
Still, all those posties retiring with a small company pension and the state pension will be well over the threshold to claim the Winter Fuel Allowance, so clearly they're wealthy and undeserving too.
That is because they don't actually live down the road! I wasn't getting at buy-to-let landlords who buy up several inner-city properties and make a decent income from it (as they likely don't have £10 million or more in the bank) but the fact that major home builders like Barratts, Taylor Wimpey and Persimmon are making billions of pounds in profit by consistently overcharging for an average house on a new housing estate. In many towns or areas where we live there are these new housing developments being built everywhere and in 15 years, the profit on these average new-build home rocketed from £6k to £63k.
And I was replying to an earlier comment by mjd24 on what the government should do to raise the extra £££. For me, considering that the inequality between rich and poor is growing and there are now more people with £10 million or more who live in the UK than ever before, these are the groups that I would target and my original point was that they should also be paying their fair share of tax. I actually agree with what you said - we should not target the most vulnerable in society but those who have more than enough.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
As previously requested, please discuss political matters in the Canteen section. I have therefore moved this thread into the Canteen.
This is not an attempt to ban political discussion; rather, it's a suggestion to help Political Nerds (of which I am one) engage in discussions without overshadowing other posters.

The problem with these well-meaning targeted benefits is that the people receiving them don’t use them for their intended purpose. They will spend it on other stuff and still not put the heating on. My mother bought a Dyson.
So it would be better to get the energy companies to have a pensioner tariff that you are automatically switched to when you reach 67.
