I definitely think dpr duties will be one of the first things to go.
Letters are in terminal decline.
Parcels are where the money is. The parcel sorting machines seem to prefer larger parcels.
They talk about the need to grow the next day delivery market.
I would say the only job that is safe in RM is a DPR driver.
DPR driver jobs are the most unsafe because Parcelforce are very short of work and it will get worse after Christmas .
Most likely Parcelforce will be join up with royal mail next year and then no need for DPR routes ,
which makes sense anyway as there are too many people going to the same addresses .
Lots of speculation on which job's will go.....
I'd be more interested in which people will go if it comes to compulsory redundancy...For example, walk into an DO office that has 200 postie's, 40 of those postie's are being made redundant..... what and how is the pecking order going to be decided.... Remember not VR but compulsory..... When the USO change's and it will there will be the need for a significant reduction in headcount.
I think there will be a time lag. Mail isn’t going to reduce overnight as soon as the USO changes. So for several years we will be delivering the same volume across the same number of days. All that will change at first will be the legal requirement to do it over six days.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

You say parcelforce are currently very short of work......it can't be just me that could come up with a suggestion to remedy that, oh hang on it's royal mail we're talking about

I completely agree. Anyone speculating to the contrary is deluding themselves.

The 37 'Pilot sites' piloting the new USO plans..... do we have a list of those anywhere?
A lot of interest to find this out I think. Although it stands to reason it WON'T be offices that are currently running well, given that the aim ultimately is to reduce staffing numbers.
I stand corrected. Martin Walsh has stated that of the 37 offices some by deploying this pilot will create surplus staff, but they will not be moved, there will be work for them. I'm not convinced.

Not much overtime available for those offices then

MW also said staff in the pilot offices will be offered increased VR, which suggests they'll be reduced numbers of staff in those offices?

It usually makes sense to pick those so the pilot also runs well?
Martin Walsh '11,000 Part Timers will now be moved to Full Time from the 1st January' ?
Surely you mean they will be given the option to go full time? as some surely won't want to.
What denotes a Part Timer anyway, anyone under 30 hours a week? or under 35 hours a week?
EDIT: I see now, he repeated this later on but clarified it's for people that have a 'variation contract'... I assume that means people that are doing early overtime every single day.
