So how does delivery 2.0 actually work...

One long row of frames and you no longer have a designated round? You just get given loops of mail at random? How do they know what's the correct amount to give you?
I want to know the specific issue they were trying to resolve if Delivery 2.0 was the answer?

Did they receive any input whatsoever from actual live posties?
I just read a CWU article that's been posted within the 'UNION' threads...

I have no idea what issue they are trying to resolve, the main thing that was mentioned was more floor space for parcels, so maybe it's that? Do they expect parcel volumes to rocket due to some new contracts they have got - who knows.

All that I got from the article was...

-Frames are put in a connected line.

-More floor space for parcels.

-Double slotted frames (2 properties in one slot) - RIDICULOUS!

Nothing in the article said anything about benefitting us from what I saw. Double slots and working right next to potentially 2 colleagues is a terrible idea. People will chat more and double slots are a terrible idea for obvious reasons.
All this money and effort being pumped into parcels and yet they have hit a level which isn’t ballooning anytime soon. They are what they are.

The endless frame has numerous problems, one of them being simply, personal space.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

It just seems a very elaborate way of trimming the staff more.
Between a USO reduction and 'Delivery 2.0' it seems they want a very agile staff not doing the same tasks 2 days running.

They are using the reasoning for delivery 2.0 to create more space in depots for parcels as a red herring .Delivery 2.0 is designed to run down the mail side of the business, cut OT and eventually decimate staff to boost profits.
In essence there are duties which people can sign for but in reality workload will be set by the managers traffic numbers and a new system designed to guide the manager to what workload should be taken and is completely at their discretion.
Posties need to stop thinking about the details that don’t matter. People are focusing on it being one frame. There will still be people signed into duties, but Royal Mail are using the delivery method to create a new culture. Rather than thinking of them as duties it is more a geographical area you are assigned to that will expand depending on traffic. They are calling them duties to appease the union but in reality the duty responsibility and seniority of old is gone under this new system. Delivery will be expected and there will be enforcement by counselling and conduct if there are not adequate reasons for non-delivery of mail and packets.
They hope an expectation to deliver, and performance management will also cut down Over Time. If you are in an office where your big parcels are being separated or moved to another depot there will be minimal OT due to frame requiring less prep and a decision to enforce strict management targets for delivery of mail rather than pay the Overtime for people to deliver it. Double/Triple slotted frames with narrow width to achieve more delivery points are what compromises the frame, flat against the wall with no side wings. They want the budget spent on delivering letters as minimal as possible so there will also be less prep due to less duties.
Psychologically, added to the pressure of completing your instructed workload Royal Mail want to destroy any remnants of community. Having everybody turned to the wall with no aisle means communication is restricted to the people to the left and right of you. However due to management having a 360 degree view of staff the environment is designed to be oppressive due to staff feeling they are constantly being monitored. In royal mails estimation this will help to reduce the Union influence even further by removing the community aspect that many depots still have.
They want the large parcels taken out of smaller/medium depots because their plans are to concentrate the future workforce in 350 parcel hubs that are typically bigger in size and in high populace areas with good links to other towns and villages. Then will be then sell the remaining property to give a huge cash boost for the owner. Staff will be either squeezed into bigger depots as smaller depots close. There will be minimal investment in the letter side of the business and only when absolutely required.
Also mentioned is that the parcels being moved from smaller depots into larger ones is a way to concentrate new employees that have highly flexible, exploitative contracts. They see these staff as the future. Posties on the older contracts will be reduced through disciplinary procedure, attrition, Voluntary Redundancy and eventually compulsory redundancy as mail declines further and the USO is reduced. They also want these depots near the motorway and access for HGVs with the greatest tonnage. So depots which are restricted by the size of the vehicle that can unload will be further isolated and more likely to close.
Delivery 2.0 is about cost cutting and boosting productivity by making staff more efficient with the aforementioned tactics. The Union should not be on board with these revisions. It is signing a suicide note to themselves and posties in general.

Jesus Matrix talk about a long and very exact explanation of what you think is happening and the companies plans for the future.
May i ask you exactly how you know any of this?
And why we should believe anything you have said?
Now don't get paranoid and think i am doubting you..... but we have read all this before on many different subjects and frankly it's usually bull, but i am prepared to listen if you have any basis.
By the way employment law still exists in some form so the company can't just push us out the door without having to line our pockets first and the courts will be full of claims if they try anything resembling what you are saying.

Ask the offices where this is being trialled currently across the UK.
Ask the managers who are on a training course starting the next couple of month across the UK to manage this new system.
Look at what Royal Mail have requested to OFFCOM
Look at the Annual shareholders meeting notes which sets out what the business plans to do in the future.
All this information is already out there. It is not conspiracy.

I'm not asking anybody to believe anything, it is up to the individual. I agree there are plenty of people that spout rubbish on private forums.
I just want it to come to the attention of royal mail employees so they can understand what is happening and the reasons
for it instead of being gaslighted by corporate speak or posts on workplace.

From everything I have read in RM’s own blurb reports, and from everything I have witnessed in our large office, this sounds exactly like the direction of travel.

A reduction in the USO commitment must be rejected because a reduced USO is a fast track to the hell detailed above.

Probably any depot that couldn't receive a double stacker artic could be up for being closed. They'd bypass the MC in some places and send the artic direct to the hub

Given the recent proposals presented to Ofcom, we can deduce the company has been formulating plans and fantasising about the most dramatic changes it could implement when unshackled from regulation for some time. The pandemic workplan they released in 2020 was found to be a (poorly) retitled plan for working around the impending strike action.

Dynamically generated duties have long been speculated - and here we are. So too offices being fed straight off the back of an artic. Office amalgamations and relocations to industrial estates with good road connectivity has been ongoing for years. The recurring head-slam that is bench merging is the immortal desire to facilitate all this.

Our nightmares exist and whether they are justified hinges on risking the appearance of being a fool by predicting a date for their introduction. If you can imagine ways the company will f**k us, you can bet their finest minds have already thought of it.

Instead of being Royal Mail, the company is utterly trapped in the logical fallacy that we are a parcel delivery company (GLS UK operating under a legacy brand name) operating in a market full of other parcel delivery companies. 90% of delivery is completely at odds with our alleged competitors' operations. We are an apple in an orange orchard.
The machine stops.

I'm in an office that has had 2.0 for a while and its a nightmare, clearly developed by people that have never done a round or even been in a DO. We were really funcional before the changes and are now tripping over each other when sorting, bumping into each other when throwing off and having a mare with double slots. There really hasn't been a single positive to come from it and its really inefficant. Its the "trial" that we are now stuck with. Good luck to all of you who are getting it!!

The people that are affected currently by the plans are the ones to question. The changes I've listed are part of a long term process but one which Royal Mail have concrete plans for and are determined to implement in short a time frame as possible.

I would go to the source like the above poster above who has experience off delivery 2.0. I can guarantee after the trials it gets much worse.

Delivery 2.0 Trial Units
Abercarn DO
Belfast East DO
Chorlton DO
Cleckheaton DO
Earl Shilton DO
Finchley Church End DO
Hedge End DO
Keighley DO
Ludlow DO
Morden DO
Newmarket DO
Pershore DO
Pinner DO
Plaistow DO
Plympton DO
Preston South DO
Ringwood DO
Royston DO
Sheerness DO
Stourport on Severn DO
Woodbridge D.

These were trial, now its going to be launched nationwide with CWU agreement. Also trials on portering off van keys and pdas.
