Not sure going over all this old ground (and it is now) makes any odds. Changes have happened, CWU doing nothing and won't either. Be glad we've still GOT a pension scheme - lots have lost theirs completely. I'm off up the pub......

Have a nice drink, unfortunately when your a pensioner you might not be able to afford it, and you will wish that you had gone over the old ground and at least tried to do something

If voting was the expected outcome in this situation, that is.
Having seen the figures and heard the arguments way back then, why would the union trustees then attempt to block the holiday?
"No, I voted against the pensions holiday, because I thought that it was only right for the pension fund to be liable for tax on it's excess profits. I think Maggie's bunch of losers well deserve the nice little cash windfall from our Pension fund"

also are you saying you know how the trustees voted on the merger of the scheme and the decision to take a pension holiday, if you do please will you post them on the site

Actually I said "if voting was the expected outcome" meaning I doubt there was a vote. That was why I posted the ironic sentence in quotation marks, ie, why would there need to be a vote on something which was seen as beneficial at the time?
Had there been a vote, and had I known and posted the results here, it would have changed or proved..... what exactly?

As stated before, I'm not reliant on RM's pension as I have a private one of my own too (a choice I made). I'm also not far from retirement. And as for 'doing something' - what exactly? Stand outside, unpaid, when no one (not even the the union) is remotely interested? Or just rattle on for months on end on here where few if anyone of note will read it and will change nothing? Besides, all of this skips over the fact that even with a stretched National Health service we're all living longer and as has been said already, pension investments can go up - or down. They are not banks.

The CWU had its pants down on this and didn't READ what they agreed to and won't come clean, although I suspect they had already calculated how much a prolonged strike would have cost the CWU so backed down. We're also in the middle of a financial crisis all over Europe so I'm not alone in feeling that no matter HOW much you complain about this, the union agreed to it and NO ONE, least of all tax payers is going to bail this out. Its done, its over - period.

All this talk about 'legal challenges' on here for starters. If there was ANY legal challenge the Trustees would not have passed it. Their interest is to make SURE that your pension is protected as far as possible and any decision they make is based on that - that is their job. If they accepted half the proposals on here, it would be worth nothing very quickly.

On thing is for sure, there is nothing to stop anyone striking but support for that will be minimal now and wildcat strikes virtually guarantee the death of a DO so unless you have any other ideas, it is indeed - old ground.

Ah "the usual suspects" the three stooges strike(sorry chaps) again.Has the comedy scriptwriting market gone flat? Same old ,same old from our free market champions. Your banking system does'nt seem to be doing to well without state support.

A banking system is only as good as the ar*ehole's who put money in to it!. You can choose your bank but you cannot choose who you work for!. And when you start for them you agree to thier term's and condition's and accept them as condition of your employment!. But if they chanage those condition's/term's we have the right to STRIKE!. FOR IF A BANKING SYSTEM CAN WITHDRAW IT'S CONFIDENCE AT THE DROP OF A HAT AND GAIN Â£100 BILLION FROM THE TAXPAYER!. New one to me that one. You can work for whoever you like surely, and sure you have a right to strike but thats only viable if lots stand with you. They won't. If that was a winner, don't you think the CWU would have called one immediately?

Ask the CWU what they signed up to on the pay and modernisation deal and why they can't do a thing about the pension change - ask them.
