You live in the most surveilled country in the world. You can’t walk down the street without being caught on one kind of CCTV or another. Talk about mountain out of a molehill.

This old nonsense again? The list is 1) China, 2) US, 3) Germany and the UK on equal fourth with Japan.

It isn’t nonsense at all. If you take CCTV as the only factor, but then add in Ring cameras and private surveillance along with our massive population density and an average person is getting caught on camera more times in the UK than China, which has many sparsely populated areas compared to us.

China has over 200 million CCTV and surveillance cameras, excluding private and business cameras. With a population of approximately 1.4 billion.

In comparison, the UK has about 5 million CCTV cameras and a population of 67 million.

Per Capita:

UK: approximately 1 camera for every 13–14 people
China: approximately 1 camera for every 7 people
However, when considering population density:

UK: around 275 people per square kilometre
China: approximately 147 people per square kilometre

Despite China's larger population and the greater number of cameras, the UK's higher population density means that individuals there have a higher likelihood of being captured on camera daily.

Even when considering Ring doorbell cameras, each household would need to have around seven or more private cameras to match China's total of over 200 million official surveillance cameras. However, since there are no official figures available for private cameras in China, it's challenging to make a precise comparison.
