USO pilots, can anyone on the trial give an honest appraisal

Our office is one of the trial offices and had our meeting this morning. Its majority rural office and they are pretty much leaving them alone apart from Saturdays when only parcels and first class go out so an early Saturday. There is also an option for them to have 2 saturdays off per 6 but this needs looking into.

Town duties will do 2nd class 2 days one week and 3 days another. In essence 3 people doing 4 duties. Duties will no longer seemingly exist but instead Routes which we have been told can be signed for at some stage. Bulk postings, door 2 doors and sickness etc seemingly is going to be worked out as the trial continues.

Its all as clear as mud and at no stage sounded like a trial but a tick boxing exercise before complete implementation. Union reps reminded us of the repercussions if trials fail by reminding us of what happened to the Belgium postal service(mass job losses). Seemingly there won’t be forced redundancies but a more natural loss of people due to retirement or leaving.

Hard to know what to make of it all.

I can't work it out, looks like "Bob" is only doing 4 days that week is that correct ? He's down for day off Thurs and doesn't feature Saturday.

Im assuming thats his 2nd Saturday off in the 6. But to get that Saturday off it sounds like u will be out 2 hours extra most of the week.

Who's doing route D on a Thursday, and route A on a Friday?
Edit- the grey writing at the bottom seems to suggest every other week all mail will only be going 2 days a week.
Mondays and Tuesdays will be super fun.

As expected the above trial does lead to 3 days mail on certain days.

Edit a lot of walks in my office cannot be cleared with 1 day of mail in them so when there's 3 days I'm sure it'll go amazingly well.

I was thinking that.
Cos if they are that's an extra van needed for every 4 walks.
That, or they expect a van share to clear 3 days mail on 2 walks on 3 days a week.
Good luck with that.
I just think, let them crack on, don't help it work in any form.
And we all know what that means- don't come in early, don't rush, and use a trolley (you'll need to with 3 days mail).
I'd like to say collectively refuse to do any overtime too, but that, nor the above will happen.

No I think posties 1 & 2 are doing all items on two duties so will be working together as per normal van share but postie 3 is doing parcels and 1c only on their own for two duties so that's just two vans total.

Rural duties were always going to be a sticking point due to the extra costs involved and inefficiencies of going over the same ground with parcels and 1st class the second day. Will probably pose a dilemma for those who choose them as they tend to be the most senior peeps, but will get the least Saturdays off. Try telling someone who has driven rural for 20 years that they can have every Saturday off if they choose to walk 12 miles a day.
The whole thing looks like it requires a fair deal of flexibility from staff and planning from management, I think that's where it will fall apart.
