Posting this for a friend who's on a 27h contract been with the company 5 years and basically been told not much chance of getting any increase in hours told by the union and RM managers. So on the New contracts staff are getting taken on 40h contracts. Can someone explain briefly what's the difference between both contracts now. Thanks
The briefest explanation is that the new t's and C's are inferior. From a financial point of view your friend will earn more staying on the existing contract but will not be guaranteed the hours. The CWU are wrong here - the rep should be going into disagreement about the employment of workers on longer contracted hours before the senior part timers are made up. The manpower plan won't require 40 hour full time contracts. If the new contracts are outside of the resourcing requirements that's the reps fault and the reps above them for letting it happen.

Martin Walsh has sold seniority out for part timers and it appears that the requirement for getting a full time contract is based on being lucky enough to get full time hours before 1st January. Once again that's the CWU's fault for failing to adhere to the resourcing plans, not having resourcing meetings and for not using the disagreement procedure to defend the resourcing plan.

Had a new start saying he wasn’t gonna do his d2ds because he doesn’t get paid for them. I thought ah s**t here we go again… wasn’t getting involved in that argument today.
One of our new starts thinks he doesn't get paid for them due to one of the bell ends we have at our place telling him that's the case, some of our colleagues are fukin idiots :arrrghhh
The small but vocal minority I am always harping on about exist at your respective offices too, chaps.

New contracts include more flexible hours for the business, mandatory Sunday working, lower hourly rate of pay, no ''Delivery Supplement'', no paid meal relief and are paid monthly rather than weekly
So if a part timer accepted this new contract, their rate of pay would go down? They would lose paid meal relief, have to work Sundays? What if they had over 20 years service? Would they also lose 2 weeks annual leave?

How stupid or desperate do RM think we are?
No. If you are currently part time and have your hours made up to full time, you will remain on your existing contract’s terms.
Not what our COM and his boss, and his bosses boss say. We have a revision coming soon, based around all partimers going full time, but ONLY if they move on to the new contracts
Your boss, your boss’ mate and his dog, are all wrong. Speak to your union rep.
It’s already been passed up the chain by the area rep. RM are not budging
When was this?
It seems 'they' - the manager's - might be correct. I suspect there might be a difference depending on whether you're being offered/asked if you want
to be made up from PT to FT as part of the fortunate 11,000 (which I'm assuming would be on legacy terms) or PT to FT 'generally' as part of a revision (which was mentioned in a previous post).

LTB 290/24 - viewtopic.php?f=82&t=114004 sort of discussed people moving office and PT to FT on legacy but I don't think there's been a resolution about the specific scenario we're referring to (PT to FT in your present office).

Quote from the letter attached to the LTB, from Andrew Smith (RM HR) to Martin Walsh:
I accept that there are other related
matters that still need to be resolved, notably the more complicated issue of part-time to part-time
(increased hours) and part-time to full-time and look forward to those being addressed at pace
through our other discussions.

About 4-5 weeks ago now. Nothing since. Strange because the whole revision is reliant on over a dozen part timers agreeing to punch themselves in the face daily

It has been sorted just before xmas,
PT can move up to FT (or increase hrs) whilst remaing on legacy t&c's.

I t was posted here in an LTB just before the CWU shut diwn for xmas.

2chor was it this one - LTB 398/24 - USO Pilots, Enablers Letter, 19 Dec?
1. Resolving the Part Time up to Full Time Resourcing Issue

• Any employee employed on “legacy Terms & Conditions” (i.e., Those employed before December
2022) currently completing a role through a temporary variation and/or offered from January 2025 an
increase in contracted hours to part or full-time hours will have the opportunity to accept that role on
a permanent basis on their legacy Terms & Conditions. This would take effect for those in position on
1st January 2025. There are approximately 11,000 part timers who will potentially benefit from this
move.
I think the the sneaky so and so managers in the revision scenario are placing the emphasis on the words 'currently completing a role....' and '...accept that role...' the refusal being based on the implication that the FT roles after a revision are 'new' roles not the OPG's 'current' roles, so denying the legacy upgrade.

Need some high level union pressure on it!

Best way to do it would be to put in more FT roles and have a repick that way everyone has a chance based on seniority.

Claret and blue you are wrong. The joint statement states that approximately 11 thousand will get the opportunity to accept the offer of an increase in their contracted hours up to and including full time from 1st January 2025.

We are in talks with Royal Mail including identifying those who will be offered this opportunity. More details will come out in early January. Please do not play this down as for 11 thousand part timers this is a good news story.
Read it back carefully

Not all

It applies to those who are already doing full time hours on a temporary uplift contract

Most of those 11,000 will be people who are already considered full timers by most but officially on paper aren’t permanent full time

35 hour contracted guys doing 37 hours for instance

Only 300 according to this.

Confirmation that 35 hours is part time like I said and 37 is real full time

The Government considers 35hrs and up, full-time.

Yeah that’s good news if the rest are being made up to 37

I’m mentioning that in the context of my debate with Barnacle who insisted 35 hours is full time

If it’s just to 35 then by the unions own words they are still part timers

This should be used to get rid of the quirky hours such as 30.5 or 32.5?? Where they cane from I have no idea but they don’t fit now, so it would be good to get everyone on a set of hours that makes sense.

It came from the days when everybody was making time so they started giving out contracts like you have mentioned and the job still got done.

Not strictly true

From Gov.uk

“There is no specific number of hours that makes someone full or part-time, but a full-time worker will usually work 35 hours or more a week“

The important part in this conversation is what the CWU considers full time and that statement suggests that 35 hours is considered part time and 37 is full time in the context of Royal Mail work

Like I said, 37 hours is considered a full time contract in Royal Mail anything less isn’t
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
