Labour are on about putting the minimum wage to £15 we will be all on minimum wage soon
I don't think that's one of Labour's policies. I'll believe it when I see it. If Labour soon announce they are going to be putting our wages up to £15 an hour, then that might motivate me to stay in the job longer.

With the delivery supplement it's already about £14.50 per hour. If minimum wage goes to £15 then there are other easier jobs than this one.

ok, fair enough. I hadn't even realised we were at £14.50 currently.

We'll probably get a 2% rise in April so that takes it to almost £15 anyway.

So the newbie contracts which don’t have a separate delivery supplement, how much are they on an hour?

Not in London it's a rather poor £12.54.

They might struggle to fill the Harehills vacancy at the moment 😱

Can anyone explain how RMs claim of paying "10% above the market average in our sector" works?
10% of £12.54 is £1.25. So are they saying the average pay in our sector is £11.29? Minimum wage is £11.44. :hmmmm
Like a lot of things, it’s made deliberately complicated so that comparisons are really difficult if not impossible to calculate.

It looks like outright lies to me.
Whatever the actual amount is, it has been outpaced by the cost of living, so what felt comfortable prepandemic, is now too little.

My point is they are either saying the market average pay in "our sector" is below minimum wage. Or the job advertisements are utter lies. :no no

So this is an example from May 2024, where I did minimal OT as I was off for the first week and was taking it easy for a bit on coming back:

Basic pay: 173:56 hours — £2,586.67
Overtime May 2024: 8:45 hours — £162.66
HP NPens OT: 32.00 hours — £113.28
LESS PSE Adj RMDCP MIN: -£129.33
Gross pay: £2,733.28
LESS deductions for tax, NI, Personal Assurance and Dental of £562.34
Net pay: £2,170.94

(£2,170.94 x12 ÷52= £500.99 net per week)

Need to bear in mind that there are are “optional” deductions from net pay of £90.52 for personal assurance and dental cover, as well as pension contribution deducted gross from salary, all of which reduce the take-home figure. The take-home figure would be closer to £550 per week without pension and other options.

This is a very decent job by market standards. This is the “smallest” of all my RM payslips!

Seems decent wage to be fair . Admittedly you’ve basically done another week of work in OT.

I know it is confusing but I only did 8hr 45mins of overtime — the reference to 32 hours is holiday pay.

We're now at least 10% LESS in pay as our agency counterparts doing the same job now......
This is hilarious. They don’t get holiday pay, our pension, our payments for d2d and other legacy payments, have to work sundays and have no job security. Why aren’t you working for these agencies? :hmmmm
They do get holiday pay, pension and their rates are higher than the new contracts. Don't worry soon you will be working Sunday's also, once youve sold your Sunday premium for a few pounds. Lou, there is no food to door payment anymore.

I really don’t know how true this is but a neighbour works for another courier and tells me he averages £2000 a month take home for mon -Fri 7am to 3 pm
definitely true.
About the same as a new postie doing 40hrs per week then.
A new start has a take home pay of £500 a week??
It’s actually more than £500 take-home for those on a 40-hour DPR contract - roughly £520 clear pw. £650 pw take-home is easily achievable with a bit of OT.
Can you break that down because my maths aint mathing

£520 for 40 hours is £13 an hour after tax and national insurance comes off so something like £15 an hour before?

I thought 40 hour contract would now only be on the newer terms which have a lower hourly rate than those of us employed before 2022
No problem. Unfortunately my take-home pay is skewed by all the OT I do, but here is an example breakdown for you to ponder over.

So this is an example from May 2024, where I did minimal OT as I was off for the first week and was taking it easy for a bit on coming back:

Basic pay: 173:56 hours — £2,586.67

There is nothing very decent about it. It's a f***ing shite job.
Outside of London the new contracts are on £12.54 per hour and that's it after 40 hours they get paid time and a quarter but not delivery supplement or any other money. The minimum wage is £11:44 per hour. Why it that the CWU have just let this go. It's a disgrace and they don't deserve your eyes because as far as I can see there doing nothing about anything.

If sundays at our place are anything to go by, I could be tempted. Sitting around playing cards while getting paid. Might be nice to get away from the missus.

I do 1 in 4 Sundays and it is easy peasy. A break from the usual grind. Don’t mind doing it at all.
