Royal Mail know they may find themselves in real trouble altering the start and finish times of individuals /carers of who fall in the disability and equality category and probably will be the only ones who will have exemption .
I can't see how anyone can have an exemption as the work will be arriving into the DOs later

Why are early ips/parcel sorters still coming in early if the work won't be there?

It probably depends on how different the start times are. 15 minutes should be easily managed. An hour, not so much.

Not rocket science, start the same time as everyone else but finish earlier(have them on a singleton duty that's shorter) and then those hours they finish ealiier are given back by working a day off every so often or doing a Sunday shift. If you want an exemption you'll have to be willing to give as well as take

That's what I envisaged, or what about reducing the contract hours accordingly to suit the shorter duty span, as you say give and take.

Sounds like there's potential to effectively force them to do Sundays every week, depending on how many hours they'll owe each week

I don’t know about force but maybe if there are childcare issues, working a Sunday might actually be helpful to them as their partner may be available on Sunday to look after the child. Maybe you may have to work your rest day to make up the shorter working day , there are ways of doing it but it will need compromise from employee and Royal Mail .

Has anyone actually had an exemption request granted? We have almost the exact same scenario as someone suggested earlier, plus children both on pathway to assessment for autism diagnosis, including one on the local disabled register (due to global developmental delay / suspected autism) I need to leave (and therefore start) 15 mins earlier three times a week (that's with me already taking my meal break at the end of my shift in order to reduce the time needed by 20 mins.) That's all. Been denied.

Cynical me wonders if anyone anywhere has been granted.

I've heard one person has managed to get it. I don't know the details or whether it's within our office or another in the area. I would not characterise it as an exemption, more a deferral: align your personal affairs with what the company wants within a timeframe or get another job.
The machine stops.

We have one colleague who has been granted an exemption, even being given a duty to enable this.
(Though to be fair not very controversial as its becoming vacant and he would get it anyway on seniority).
However nobody, including himself, the manager or indeed anybody else can see how on earth he will be able to complete
given the new times and logistics involved(unless its dead), when the clock hits a certain time he will return to the office.
Answers on a postcard..
We also have someone else who has renewed his football season ticket on the very loose proviso that the manager said
he could go if he had finished (it would be an hour early which sounds like a recipe for disaster).
Again it has been pointed out to him that logistically it would have to be at the very least a below average volume day to
give him a chance of getting there. We shall see.

I can't see the longevity in that arrangement, what happens about the mail that will inevitably get returned undelivered, has the manager got a plan, if so then that would surely involve paying someone overtime, is there a few folk who've said they don't mind "mopping up" if required at short notice.

Will the mail arrive early enough for the person to begin ips, if not then what's he going to do ?

Did all those moaning about the later start and finish times vote no to the deal ? Considering it was virtually a landslide yes vote , I’d guess the majority didn’t. I voted no and the new times don’t really affect me , a bit rich moaning now .
It wasn't really a "landslide" vote was it. It was the majority of the few that could be bothered after the union sell out.

67.1% turnout, of which 75.84% voted in favour of the agreement. Quite a telling vote, but I’ll forever be amazed that 1 in 3 who pay their fees couldn’t be bothered to vote.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
