Same. An hours worth of mail brought back office-wide.
Scan to core is a complete joke. PDA’s barely functional all
Morning.

Mail through the roof since Saturday - COINCIDENCE.
I can't see Scan to Core has made any difference to how our DO's PDA's run, post in my DO also seems to have picked up this week.
They seemed better today to be fair. Maybe it was the launch day and a few teething problem. And yes, Mail and parcels through the roof this week.
We all took the “lapsing” Monday, the new stuff they’ve added. By Tuesday we’ve all dropped it because nobody has time.
What is this scan to core thing?
You haven’t had it? I thought it was nationwide from this week.
You essentially scan all your own tracked parcels to your specific duty. It’s a pain in the arse.

No? This is just scanning at your frame rather than it being done during IPS, it literally takes minutes.

Different Areas are bringing it in at different times/dates. We're due to start soon. Some have been doing it for a while.

Those that are already doing it ... Roughly how long is it adding to your indoor prep?

I take the view that every minute we spend indoors is less time available to spend outdoors delivering. And therefore the more mail that's being brought back. :cuppa

It can be stressful working that way and I feel sorry for those who don’t feel able to stand up for themselves but like you say, we still have a start and finish time. We have to get away from the ‘it’s not possible, it won’t work’ idea. If it’s a reasonable request just do as instructed, then clock out on time.

I don’t know of any manager who’d stand by the SISO machine and physically stop you from leaving on your time. Let them deal with anything brought back, it’s not our problem.
You're right some Posties just don't have the will power, or backbone, to stand up to their managers. They're the ones who will be consistantly put upon to do more, and more, work. I hope they learn to stand up for themselves sooner rather than later.

Our Manager was saying that the reason everyone's getting more work is because for years some people have been going home early. I said, "Then you should have been stood in the door and when they came back early you should have sent them back out with some more work"

He quickly shut up when he realised that would mean he'd have to actually be in the building when these Early Finishers came back in ...... He's normaly dissappeared off home by 10.00! :dance

No SISO for managers unfortunately. :cuppa

If you've not even done any scanning ready for delivery you'll notice the time.

We've been scanning at frame for several years now. This 'Scanning to Core Route' is a bit more involved.

Previously scanning 'Ready for Delivery' meant you could scan loads of parcels one after the other. The odd one or two would
come up with an in-flt request. But you could 'batch scan' up to fifty and then submit.

Now scanning 'To Core Route' means each individual tracked is scanned one by one, the 'system' checks the address and you have to click submit
after each individual parcel. Often the 'system' does not recognise the address and you have to confirm it. For addresses
that have re-directions in force you have to select that the re-dir is valid for the parcel or not.

So yes it takes more time. I'd say scanning each parcel ready for delivery took less than a second, scanning to core route takes up to four seconds
depending if the address is recognised or not and the PDA decides ok you've decided that's good (you get the spinning circle of doom
while it thinks about it!).

Then when you've scanned all your tracked you'll get a list that you upload to 'the cloud'. This then places the tracked on
a list on your 'Outdoor' screen. The ones that have had their address recognised are obvious, the ones that didn't just appear
without any address attached. When you deliver one, it gets ticked. Makes your Outdoor screen very cluttered especially
if your PDA now displays your walk hazards, but you can hide them from the Outdoor screen.

Even if you don't personally deliver ie it was taken by your van share partner or oversize driver it'll still appear on your PDA
without a tick at the end of the day, but the PDA doesn't have a fit if you've not personally delivered it, you can logout
with apparently 'undelivered' entries on 'your' PDA list.

Yes, minutes that most people dont have ( thats managers problem though but not everyone speaks up )

Over the years everything extra we have been asked to do on Delivery '' only takes a few minutes''

Sticker all the shut mail rather than write on them - it'll only take you a few minutes
Increase max number of d2ds to throw in - it'll only take you a few minutes
Collect from pillarboxes on delivery - it'll only take you a few minutes
Scan the COLOD when back at office - it'll only take you a few minutes
Scan all the 2d barcodes - it'll only take you a few minutes
Deliver to neighbour - it'll only take you a few minutes
Take photos of the parcels - it'll only take you a few minutes
Collect from customers at the doorstep - it'll only take you a few minutes
Collect more than 5 items ( up to 50 ) from customer - it'll only take you a few minutes
Scan all the tracked parcels at the frame and the lapsing frames - it'll only take you a few minutes

And all these these minutes are never counted for in most cases.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

It seems a bit random, I've used different PDA's, you can hide them on some and not on others from the 3 vertical dots on the Outdoor
screen, I think the software is faulty, you shouldn't really be able to hide the hazards!

no probs i think there should be an option to hide them for duty holders as we know the hazards already. Its the screen is now full of info.

In all honesty, scan to core is a rare good idea from RM. It doesn't take long, and is far more efficient.

I have two worries about it tho.

1) is it the first step towards an Amazon style model where the all-seeing PDA tells us where to go, and when. Delivery windows and strictly fixed routes etc.

2) it'll be fekkin carnage at Christmas, when your frame is a bombsite with packets all over the shop. They better not start pulling people up for a few missed scans.

Just checked again today and when your on 'Outdoor' select the 3 vertical dots and you (might) have 'Hide Delivery Points'.
This hides all the packets you've scanned to core route and the hazards (well it did for me). All that left on the screen
was any customer collections and the box collections :thumbup

Other colleagues in the office don't seem to have that option and their screen looks like the departures board at Kings Cross!
Don't know whether it's the particular PDA, the individuals logon or the route that's the source of the discrepancy.

Get rid of 5 to 8 walks in every office up and down the country and there's 10000 job losses through the back door without paying a penny, then tell the government they cant do letters, fill their pockets with money and get the taxpayer to subsidise letters ,GENIUS !!!
