Why have you not got some sort of aggregate system. Everyone should have the same earning opportunity, seniority doesn't come into it.HTPostman wrote: ↑06 Jan 2023, 05:38Sounds just like our place. Most of the golden oldies in early doing IPS and parcel sorting. Not a problem there, I don’t blame people for getting what they can. However the rest don’t get a look in.Shadedpostie wrote: ↑05 Jan 2023, 23:43Yeah this entirely! The amount of senior full timers coming in on overtime in my office is very high. You got some getting paid few hours in the morning to sort parcels and s**t despite being full time. You'd of thought if the company was truly invested in the future (which we know they haven't), they would of had some of the part timers do some of the sorting. That way hours are more fair and not screwed if for instance them full the mers ring in sick. Feel like over the years as well union has sorta just been focused on the bare minimum on our end in just asking for a pay rise and trying to just keep things the way they are. Should of gotten the OT rate sorted soon as it was apparent it didn't work in their favour. The holiday pay is another screw up.Seymour Buts wrote: ↑05 Jan 2023, 22:41It is deliberate to discourage people from doing overtime. If you're part time, the rate is slightly highly (I think) until you hit the the hours equivalent to a full time contract. That's where it drops. The theory being full timers are put off from doing overtime meaning more part timers can boost their hours, and it encourages Royal Mail to make more part timers up to full time. Problem is, it just didn't work. Virtually all the overtime in our office is hoovered up by the senior full timers.
We had an amusing situation the other month when 3 of the Fab Four were off the same week on annual leave, management were practically pleading with part timers or any of the under appreciated full timers to come in early, I think only one took the bait and I think he sorted with his eyes still closed looking at how many missorts we had.

It's how it's always been in this office. Those that have been there for awhile normally get more early hours whereas the part timers be lucky enough to even get FT hours and are only real choice in the matter is clearing a row or half a row on another walk if that's not clear. The irony of the matter is, those senior members end up actually finishing WELL before their finish time. Basically, they have plenty of time to throw in their walks and be ready to bag up the moment majority of the PTs even step foot in the building. It all goes back to management, it's a bloody shockingMickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 05:53Why have you not got some sort of aggregate system. That’s pretty much it. We have PT in at 9am while FT are getting ready to leave, the least the early crew could do is check through the parcels to make sure there aren’t any for the ‘just leaving the office’ walks but when things aren’t enforced it’s free reign. So what you have is usually between 5 to 10 sacred tracked parcels for another walk and the PT are told just do them on the way.Shadedpostie wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 11:09It's how it's always been in this office. In my early days, when I was PT, I even caught a colleague putting some of his parcels in my york so he didn’t have to take them.
As for aggregate systems for OT, goes back to my point about things not being enforced. I kicked up a fuss about never getting to do the round I’m meant to cover (4 day cover duty), I went to the union, put in grievances and got myself worked up. I got nowhere. I now feel much better clocking in, doing as instructed, clocking out.
I no longer think of my round, my van....or not a round I’ve done, a rural I’ve not been trained on etc. Just clock in, work to my usual speed and standard, clock out. I don’t care what I’ve left behind, not my problem, I’ve worked the hours I’m contracted to do and am not paid to deal with the other half of the walk I’ve left, above my pay grade.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
