Don't blame my hypothetical offer...manchesterpunk wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 17:42I have a Sunday duty - Thanks for throwing me under the bus with Sunday Premium Payment
Solidarity!
I added 'the premium payment gets reduced over time' as that's what's planned. Whether the CWU are fighting against that - I don't know.

Do you think our only hope of him going is the result of the CWU meeting with the shareholders which is supposedly happening this week?postslippete wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 17:30The only thing I agree with Norris is your last point - that we desperately need a new CEO

Re: My offer to Royal Mail.
Exactly my argument when I finish early. I am efficient, I dont spend all morning talking, drinking coffee and having fag breaks. I sort, I throw my walk in, I seg packets, scan tracked, whatever needs doing, all to get out that door, get finished, and get back to my family. The guy opposite me can't put 2 boxes of mech in his frame before 10am, why would I go out and take a few streets off him? Not a chance.DaveF14 wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 17:58Had to have a wee laugh to myself on this one. Some duties have bigger indoor prep than others. Some people have bigger outdoor deliveries than others. People heading out on their duties while other duties are still being boxed in or needing boxed in.
People coming back and going home while their colleagues are still out delivering, not one though that hey maybe I can go help them finish their route or take half a street of them.

If you worked at McDonald’s you wouldn’t be able to leave early because you are more efficient than the guy next to you. You work to your time.
Leaving early every day and still expecting a pay rise is absurd. No wonder the powers that be are clamping down on everything. As a business model it just don’t cut it.

Back in the day job and knock rewarded efficiency. You do your job and get finished. Offices got cleared. But all the lazy, slow, piss takers didnt like that, Royal Mail didnt like people going home early, so job and knock stopped. Why be efficient and good at your job and then get extra put on to you. I might as well walk backwards, take extra fag breaks, talk shite all morning in the office and get out late. Standards slipped and rounds get failed. Thats why Royal mail is f*cked now!

I actually went to an office a couple of year back, before covid so maybe longer, and they said because I didn’t know the area I could take the walk that was easier but had steep roads and a few beech side businesses.
The regular guy worked to his time everyday and finished at 2 by all accounts and I rushed around because I didn’t wanted to take into account the fact I didn’t know the area etc….
Anyway I was finished at 9.45. I got back to office and asked if there was anything to do and manager thanked me for my time and that’s was my 8 hours pays worth…
I guess postmen have different mindsets. The speed demons and heel draggers. Both give a false impression of how the walk time should be.

I’d love it to be job and knock. That would probably be a deal clincher for me… but as a business that ain’t going to be encouraged in 2022 and beyond.

Re: My offer to Royal Mail.
What would people think of receiving the £500 bonus in return for the 23rd / 24th December becoming none strike days?
It’s a suggestion I’ve pondered about floating wider, because;
• That £500 has always been somewhere in RM’s offers so it’s clearly budgeted for (and has been artificially inflating the % rise so would be good to get it paid and off the calculation).
• I don’t think they got as many people in as they were hoping today - I only spotted two shoebox size “clear delivery office” photos today - so some in the management team might be starting to lose their nerve as the press attention intensifies.
• Conversely, the two days in question might not see as strong a walkout. I have to admit I’m conflicted on whether I should continue to hold out for those particular days.
• The suggestion is clearly a sticking plaster and doesn’t resolve anything else… but that’s kind of the point and us making £500 from the threat of strike action could be seen as a small win.
And finally;
• Dealing with a mountain of blacklog after Christmas/into the new year doesn’t sound like much fun!
Thoughts please?

Re: My offer to Royal Mail.
You were getting finished for 9.45 and the normal guy that did the route took till 2. This is my point. Over the years that guy has took the piss and made his duty a lot harder than what it is, making workloads unbalanced. Theres minimum requirement's that a blind monkey can keep too within Royal mail. Now, you get done at that time you are then asked to go and help this piss taker. Jog on...

Hopefully shareholders come to their senses and we get change.
No I don't think the meeting is our only hope.
All shareholders are really bothered about is the share price and their dividends so if Royal Mail or IDS don't make decent profits next year then they might not be able to pay those dividends and that is when it is more likely that shareholders will get rid.
Hopefully, Dave and Andy will point out to those shareholders that unfortunately we will have to continue our solid 100% industrial action because of the current CEO who keeps dodging meetings and adding more obstacles in the way regarding the proposals. Investors won't want continuing Industrial Action as that will negatively affect the share price over the longer term but its unwise to speculate about anything right now especially as the Tories are considering bringing out tougher anti-union laws. The real key to Simon Thompson's survival as a CEO is an agreement, and the longer this dispute goes on, the less likely he is to remain in charge.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
