MARINE ANIMAL .5 and 3 ? oh got it ! SHIPS CAT LOL!! STAY LUCKY JP :wave
Machman, I am only stating my point of view, once more we travel down the avenue of 'Why I have to justify posting something that may threaten to burst the RMchat safety bubble.' It's just a forum, it's just a topic. This is what the site is for, diverse and varied topics. Why don't you lighten up and stop taking it so defensively, before it turns you grey haired. I really don't think my posts will change anything, so don't feel so threatened. The only threat you have is from yourselves. I don't spend my shift watching, or studying staff working. The IMP staff near where I was placed were in my face with it all. I've posted my observations and conclusions. Continue what debate? It seems like there is no arguement against my post, just disapproval. I am not turning against colleagues, but I don't have to agree with everything I see my colleagues do whilst at work. There are bigger critisisms than my thread, perhaps all the DO staff who are now blaming the MC staff for the yes vote. The yes vote only goes to show the lack of concern RM staff have for their jobs, especially the 46,000 union members who never bothered to vote. According to this site, and it's poll there should have been an overwhelming rejection of the pay deal. If staff can't cope with a minor point brought up by me, what hope have we got for our futures?

Ps. Already been called a manager, seems I've had a promotion now! I'm not, nor am I a scab. I also voted against this pay deal before that one is thrown in.

PJ, haven't you realised by now that this isn't actually a site for debating as such, but more for sounding off at the real or perceived injustices meted out by RM?
Or that despite the many and various posters expounding on how bad their lot it, the site actually has a clique of maybe 8-10 regulars posting much the same-old same-old constantly?
The really worrying thing is that this site is accessable by anyone, and I shudder to think how some posters must come across to the general public.
Anyway, to return to the MC debate; good operators are worth their weight in gold, as they can make the mech sing without appearing to try, whereas bad 'uns aren't worth their weight in waste paper, but RM being RM, no-one appears to check/cajole/instruct/discipline the bad ones, so the good ones are pulled down the bad ones' level.
Which other company in the world would allow any processing centre to be run like that?
:arrrghhh
Now, to save certain posters the bother, I'm not a scab/"screw"/manager/wannabe manager/Leighton/TWAT/or even a surgical bully, but just another RM employee.

star dust wrote:why should the imp staff not do what you say they are doing!!!! there are two ways of working on a imp, (1) the staff can work like mad and clear the imp in around 10 mins, then it takes 5/6 mins to fill up then start again.(2) the staff can work at normal pace all night without the 5/6 minutes it takes to fill up. The way they work is upto them as long as they do not stop the imp to clear it out. If the two on the sorter can not agree as to whitch way to work (1) or(2) they do half each, but that is rare. So the 5/6 mins is upto upto the staff to take or leave.
By doing more productive activities the IMP staff could -

*Make a big difference on other sections, the knock on effect from this could even help other shifts.
*Improve quality of service.
*Set an excellent example to other staff, instead of creating contempt amongst staff. I would like to stipulate there is no contempt on my behalf, I am refering to several comments on this this thread.
*Secure their jobs and safeguard employment in their MC by proving and validating their and others worth.
*Show respect and adherence to H&S regulations.

Again, Star dust, I would like to bring this back to the fact that I am not disputing whether or not the IMP staff are doing their jobs. I am disputing, from what I saw to be more than 5/6mins, the excessive talking, texting, eating, reading etc..... that went on, not only on the sorter end but also on the feeding parts of the machine. Now, Star dust, as I have given you some reasons why IMP staff shouldn't, in my opinion, be eating in work time, can you have the decency to give your reason why they should.
Jedi.. I have to disagree with your points you made... 1) "SECURE THERE JOBS AND SAFEGUARD EMPLOYMENT IN THERE MC AND PROVING AND VALIDATING THEIR AND OTHERS WORTH.." OK.... My points are.. WHY DO ANY OF US HAVE TO SHOW, PROVE, VALIDATE THERE OR OTHERS WORTH?????? YOU SPEAK AS A SCREW AND EVEN AFTER THE VOTE HAS COME IN YOU COME ON AND SPOUT B/S IN MY OPINION LIKE RM HI COMMAND... You speak of OPG's standing around and doing all sorts of anti social/workplace behavour that unless it hurts or is involving you??? YOU SHOULD MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS..... You do speak very hi handedly about others... I feel you are bothered more about workers jobs and how they do them than your own job and contribution to the greater good.... But i cant say that as i dont know you... BUT YOU MUST BE LOVED BY THE SCREWS IF YOU WORK LIKE YOU CHAT???? I wonder how you acted and would of acted when we last went out on strike and then if this last vote called for more action.??????? What would you do for the setting an EXCELLENT EXAMPLE TO OTHER STAFF??????? STAND ON THE PICKET LINE AT ALL HOURS AND STAND UP AGAINST RM AND BACK A DEMOCRATIC VOTE... OR DID YOU SCAB AND SNEEK IN TO THE MC??? Just for the record as i dont know.. It would be usefull and the knowledge would help everyone wont it!!!!!

Don't see why we're "total dissaray" because of "wannabees" but anyway.....
Ever heard the expression about those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it?
Ever read about conditions and attitudes in some of the long-gone factories and industries?
Ever considered how many RM staff are in jeopardy with new technology and new working practices?
I wouldn't want to lose my job (if I was a postie) because I fancied a bite to eat/fag/chat about last night's footie/ Lotto subs/ etc and wasn't pulling my weight and become known to the "screws" (pathetic bit of slang, that) as a skiver, but what do I care?
You carry on, if you think you're fire-proof.....

I HATE PATHETIC SCREWS

Post by L Tommo »

Tman... Do you expect the worker in a MC to be chucked in a battery farm of working conditions???

strapped in to a sorting frame for 7H20M a day????

I do my work and in my work area we DID have the best EP for all three shifts in my MC...

Now i willnot take the credit, It was all the people who had a incentive to work like we cared.. Coz we did....

There was some disagreement on working to a "JOB N KNOCK" style but when we were left alone we cleared and then some more our quota for the day... Our MANAGER... As he was and is a MANAGER.. Not a SCREW .. He let us work and trusted us...

Then a new Shift screw came in and WHOLLOP... Wanted us to do more and more for our days work... No thanks. No understanding of our good will just YOUR DO AS I SAY....

Ok we did as he said... WORK TO OUR 318...

Work piled up... We went home... Then RM got nasty... CLOSE SUPERVISION.. 3 AND 4 screws standing over people working... In our ears and in our way... H&S issues were brought up and just the fact they were intimidating us....

So in this case and many others the BIG STICK IS ALL RM WANT TO "ENCOURAGE" GOOD WORK AND PRIDE IN THIS SOMETIMES BORING JOB IN A MC..... Look wot is happening in DO's... RM want 8hs work minus M/R and they will get it...

But they wont get a clearance... CUT OFFS AND MAIL LEFT is all they will get... IF people have any brains????????

Job n knock DOES work... ONLY and if only the MANAGERS put trust in the workers and treat us like adults n not kids with a big stick... Look no further at the stem of the problem... People are by nature NOT going to work harder if they are whipped n chased.... It just brings the workers and job down.... IS THIS WHAT RM WANT?????

I THINK SO!!!

The jist of what you say makes sense but that would only work if every employee did it across the board and you and I know they won't. Most in my office prefer the later starts and a lot of the reason why the vote swug to a yes is because it was so near christmas and their other halves were up in arms at the prospect of more lost money. Some offices might be able to maintain the routine but the vast majority won't and will still use their own cars etc etc.

I know where you're coming from. Too many managers in RM are there merely because they put themselves forward, rather than because they have any sort of managerial skills, but to be fair, that wasn't the original point (or not the original point as I understood it anyway).
There's a night shift manager where I work who won't let the operators work job and knock because, as he says, "when I see a bit of give and take and graft put in over the whole shift, then I'll let them go early, but if they're dumb enough to think I'm fooled by the last hour rushing around when for the previous 7 they've been almost catatonic, then they'll stay to the end".
Unfortunately RM may have more than it's share of stoomer managers, but this bloke isn't one of them.
