That result is massive vote and I hope everyone will support our unity through our actions as well as our words and votes because we are going to need it this time the CEO has a vested interest more than any CEO in the past of any of the past in this business! But well done on part one and we need a good deal and you gave our union your backing by this vote and time will tell if we can get a deal without a strike and I hope we can but alas we are at a crossroad and things have not been going in the direction of the last deal and the four pillars as they do not consult the union but dictate to us all union or not this is not was envisaged in the last agreement!

RM can only use the same number of agency they normally use, they can't get in extra agency workers to cover the strikes.

Using agency workers to cover during a strike
Agencies aren’t allowed to supply workers specifically to cover work that isn’t being done during lawful industrial action.

Agency workers already in place as part of your normal business can carry on as usual.

Easy for managers/strike breakers to cover one office on strike. Bit different if its every office. Make no bones about it, majority WILL strike. Most are fed up, even if many are scared to say so.
A one day strike wont cause too much disruption( bank holidays). Needs to be rolling 2 days one week, 2 the next and then a work to rule. Cause maximum disruption.
Fully agree. Thing is they can get all the agency staff in the world they can find (do agency staff cost the business more). They will be slower, they won’t know how to tie up, they won’t know of certain calls....there’s one rural round I know of with a farm that has a tall 100ft long hedge, then a cutting no more than 10 inches wide with a black mailbox in...there is no way you can find that delivery point without being shown. Oh and they get a lot of tracked so it’s not like an agency staff can just bring that call back each day.
Strength in numbers, something will give.
I agree imagine just a simple special delivery and the person not having a clue were it is.

The government site states it's OK to use agency staff already in place but there is no mention of this in the legislation.
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2003 ... ion/7/made

7.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2) an employment business shall not introduce or supply a work-seeker to a hirer to perform—

(a)the duties normally performed by a worker who is taking part in a strike or other industrial action (“the first worker”), or

(b)the duties normally performed by any other worker employed by the hirer and who is assigned by the hirer to perform the duties normally performed by the first worker,

unless in either case the employment business does not know, and has no reasonable grounds for knowing, that the first worker is taking part in a strike or other industrial action.

(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply if, in relation to the first worker, the strike or other industrial action in question is an unofficial strike or other unofficial industrial action for the purposes of section 237 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992(1).

Royal Mail are allowed to hire people directly on fixed term contracts to cover a strike.
