LTB435/18 Royal Mail Delivery - Musculoskeletal Survey Report

I just come across this thread, anything come out of it? Probably not knowing Royal Mail. I didn't know about this happening, I have thought for a while it would be interesting if a survey was done to see how many Postie's in each office have had feet or knee problems. I get insoles/orthotics made up for me from my local hospital and the Doctor told me he has a few clinics in different hospitals and he sees many Postie's with bad feet. It would be good to hear Royal Mails response to that report, or if the report appeared in a newspaper or on TV. I know RM don't give a f@#k about us really. Loads in our office ( and all the other offices for sure ) have had foot and knee problems and some left because of them.

This deserves a bump. Im witnessing colleagues not yet in their 30’s struggling with knee, back, shoulder and other problems. Cant imagine how things will look in 20+ years if these 4.5-5.5 hour deliveries continue (which they clearly will and possibly increase).

Great thread and one that has to be highlighted . I’m over 20 years service and me knees and shoulder are in bad shape. I constantly feel bad aches and pains while out on delivery . Having to buy my own trainers as the footwear rm provide doesn’t help either. I’m currently looking for a new job as I know if this keeps up its going to be a regular trip to the docs. There’s a few posties in my office who have had knee and hip surgery . One only in his early 40s. Pretty worrying and the job never seems to get any easier.

Over 20 yrs myself elbows an forearms in bad way been off sick for a good while awaiting scans. also suffer with plantar fascitis hope you know you can claim up to £34 from rm with a specialists note towards your footwear.

So what is the union and health and safety going to do about it,nothing as usual ,i wish i had a 4hr delivery ,they make us take our packets and the other day my delivery took 5,50 hrs and they do that by putting in o/t in the morning and getting you out 1 hr early,is this allowed has it had a risk assessment for length of delivery,maybe someone can answer as my union and health and safety are useless,can i make a claim for musculoskeletal injuries.

The CWU instigated this with introducing the Way Forward Agreement and delivery methods.
The blame lies equally on Royal Mail, The Employee and CWU

Since introducing delivery methods employees have refused to use the mandatory designated equipment, preferring to get home early and watch Jeremy Kyle

Is it any wonder the duties have got bigger with table top revisions as managers see employees going home early in deliveries?
Both Royal Mail and the CWU have applied nothing but lip service to what needs to be a conduct issue and encouraged cutting corners

And you cannot even deny it as they have all that lovely PDA telematry data

Not me sunshine,take my breaks never cut corners and always take the trolley and wear royal mail foot wear,as i said has a 5.50 delivery been risk assesed if not can i mahe a claim for musculoskeletal problems,if it turns out a disability for life i think it could run into the millions if people started claiming.

How can you prove with the balance of probability the job description caused your current health detriment?

Especially the CWU saying there is no link between delivery methods and musculoskeletal problems on the strength of that report?

I bet the number of CEO'S or people on the board of directors had no such issues but they ask form us all more and deingh all responsibility for their own actions in which they are complicit by the very fact they issue dictat!
