A quick google says average newly qualified nurse gets about 23k - and in my opinion it's impossible to compare the two jobs.

Yeah .. and they work a damn sight harder for their money.. and under a lot tougher conditions! Let’s face it , this job is a piece of cake in comparison (my other half is a staff nurse)
I’m sure most of the whiners on here have never done a proper job !

Andy is right, this is a far better deal than Royal Mail firstly tabled. Big problem is that anything that CWU negotiated was always going to look extremely good compared to that. Royal Mail purposely proposed an absolutely crock of sht to make their eventual agreed position look like an absolute climb down.

What have they agreed.
1/ Pay A less than inflation rise over 2 years with limited backdating. Third year 2% which is also likely to be below inflation. Who is this a good deal for?

2/ Pension Withdrawal of a Guaranteed Pension Scheme albeit Career Average to a Non guaranteed anticipated Career Average Scheme. The company will now contribute 13.5% which I assume includes the cost of life cover, widows benefit and ill health pension. The employee continues to pay 6%. The employee will now contribute a higher percentage of the over all cost to a much inferior pension. Who is this a good deal for?

3/Cultural change. Words that mean nothing to the workforce having to fight a daily battle to be allowed to work to their contract of employment, with no recognition of systematic bullying and harassment carried out by lower management, aided and abetted by their superiors. No guarantee of fully paid holidays or sickness pay for the average hours a part time member of staff is actually working. No agreed change to the Overrunning Deliveries Agreement. This is the biggest bone of contention within a delivery unit. No guarantee by Royal Mail that they will carry out the Grievance Procedure within the bi-laterally agreed time schedules. No guarantee that the majority of Bullying and Harassment cases will not be instantly downgraded to Grievances by the HR department.

I could go on and on, fortunately I do not get a vote. If I did my answer would be no until the CWU go back to the negotiating table and get meat on the bone and not a load of old skeletons.

Andy51 is right, although I wouldn’t express myself in such a manner. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, me included.

So here it goes. Comparing a nurse too a Postie, is like comparing apples and oranges. A nurse takes Years of training, a Postie, and I don’t want to sound disrespectful, takes a few weeks to become efficient.

Our wages and terms of conditions as I have already stated, are for unskilled workers very good. Full time, in London, with this new deal, if there is a yes vote, we be over £26000, we additional earning opportunities. I personally cannot remember when I earnt less then £35000 a year.

Our hourly rate will be over £13 an hour. For a unskilled job. I get for over 20 years service 6 weeks holiday a week. Plus very generous sick leave .

This all cost money! And don’t forget, the business has over 100,000 employees.

In my opinion, if this deal gets rejected, I very much doubt that we will be offered a better one. And if there is strike action to try to squeeze more from them, and the consequences being that we lose contracts because of it, expect to find yourselves being asked to reapply for your job at considerably less money, and inferior T&C.

That is why I’m voting YES.

'I' think there's more to it than having a half decent wage a few weeks hols and the fact i'm not clever enough to be a nurse or some other job that gets screwed over.
There's more to look at than that, if only it was that easy.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Working outside London 38 hours @ £11 = £418 per week less tax and Ni = £347 nett approx.

Say paying £120 per week rent or mortgage, £35 week Rates, £70 week groceries
travel expenses £30 per week.

Don't leave much over for anthing else, insurances, clothes, school bits and pieces. Nothing left for social activities.
OK might be getting tax credits/universal credit, but why should the taxpayer supplement low wages paid by Royal Mail.

Why class yourself as unskilled, you are carrying personal and private communications to everybody in the land and are responsible for the security and care of that mail, regardless of the weather conditions under which you have to work. You are expected to degrade the physical condition of your body over a term of years because of the extreme wear and tear that your body will endure over that time from the type of work you do on a daily basis. Not even an olympic athlete would put their bodies through such an endurance on a day in day out basis, week in week out, month in month out and year in year out. They have to rest to allow the body to recover. Look at proffesional footballers. Their managers claim they are fatigued if they play more than a couple of games a week. Let them try to carry out the physical work you do.
Do not belittle the work you do, or the pay. You are worth more than what Royal Mail is paying.
You will need a very good pension when you retire. Do not accept this watered down version of an already inferior Career Average Scheme that you have at the moment. Royal Mail will be back to dilute it even further in the coming years. Stop the assault on your terms now.

We were promised something special.
We have been offered mediocrity or worse.
It isn't good enough.
We gave them the backing they asked for and they came back with a crock of shite.

Basic pay for outer London according to my recent payslip which I have in front of me , is £489.01, for a 39 hour week. £12.53 a hour.

I assumed Royal Mail didn’t have regional pay rates. Inner London would also attract other allowances, Which I don’t receive.

Can anybody else on this site confirm the hourly pay rate for the rest of the country.
Thanks.

Your London weighting is included in your basic pay.
Inner London is an extra £75/week I think.

Thanks for your reply clash. I’m outer London not inner. And I find it hard to believe that I receive £1.50 a hour nearly £60 per week more than my colleagues from the rest of the country.

Thought I read somewhere the CWU were against regional pay rates. I stand to be corrected.

Can someone up north for example confirm what their basic weekly gross pay is.
Thank you
