Sack all managers and get rid CWU. We could run the company and we could hopefully share all the profits. Pensions would still be a problem though.
We could also sack Higson and co.
Its a no goer I am afraid.

The biggest hurdle would be posties affording the £100. Even if taken out of pay and I could not see a Government controlled by The Conservatives pulling out all the stops to make what is in effect is a workers co-operative, and certainly couldn't see them doing it over a 50 year term, most of us would be expired before the term was :left: .

Also can't see people starting out as posties having the readies to pay £100 to join the scheme. For me it took about a year before I had any disposable income and was able to afford luxuries, I think most would not count paying into the scheme as a necessity.

Get rid of the CWU - in a workers co-op that would be a big mistake. I would always want an independent organization looking after my interests and without a Union to advise on a Management proposal I think we would be in a bigger mess than we are now. The CWU has a lot of faults, but I am certain that we would be in a far worse position now if they did not exist.

The Pensions - actually its written into the Act as far as I know that the government will take on the deficit once we are privatized. That should still happen if we had a workers co-operative. We would start of with a blank slate as far as pensions are concerned and we could all decide what type of pension we provide, finances and costs taken into account obviously.

Higson mate are you dearranged this guy i wouldn't trust with anything let alone your future - Axeman.

You write incomprehensible rubbish like this and then ask if a poster is doing drugs. Try some punctuation and capital letters in the correct places Axeman. Better still, have a nap in a dark room until you've lost a wee bit of the hostility.

160,000 x 5 = £800,000. a little short of the £2 Billion (£2,000,000,000,000) which TNT were rumoured to have offered to Mandleson.

Mind you I think even £5 with the present management in place is a little overpriced.

Teebs..(£2,000,000,000,000) is old school billion (a million million)In today's money that's £2trillion.
With that the Government could wipe out the entire UK debt overnight. :chuckle
British English has now adopted the American figure, though, so that a billion equals a thousand million in both varieties of English.
£2.000.000.000 is all :left: they want for us.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

TBT , dont we still get a hundred pound bonus at Xmas ? i would be more than prepared to use this to help buy the firm.
we have been conditioned over many years to accept and believe that we need managers and that these special ones will lead us to the promised land , poppycock , just another layer of people lining their pockets off the back of others.
of course different people have different skills and abilities and i would be more than happy to see some people using their organisational skills to oversee the running of the operation while the rest of us grafted. just as long as they are on the same grade with the same pay and conditions etc and didnt receive a special bonus way and above everyone else.

however, back to today in this capitalistic world i will continue to touch my cap and know my place .....

So Borders, who would be the entrpreneurs looking for new markets, customers etc. Do you really think that they would be prepared to be paid the same money as a foot soldier, when they can earn vast salaries for their skills in other companies/industries. By the way I am not suggesting that the current management line up have any of those skills, far from it, if they had then this company would not be in the sh.te it is in.

i suppose by the term entrepreneurs you really mean the sales and marketing team and i guess they are not paid a great deal more than a postie.
at our place most of the office staff have been laid off, thats why they have been trying to encourage us into spotting new work , while we are out and about. Watch And Win , i think they call it !!??
this is a labour intensive business and i for one think it is a very important cog in the wheel of Britains economy and without the foot soldiers as you put it, where would it be ?

Absolutely, one cannot work without the other, but can you name me one company where the people who create the work are paid the same as those that carry out the work.

the word create is rather spurious if comparing it to RM and using it to reason why our top managers get paid so much.
maybe you would like to read this report - http://www.highpaycommission.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

heres a taster ...
Pay matters: who gets what and how
they are paid affects how people behave.
In a business it affects motivation and
engagement. In our economy it affects
social mobility, entrepreneurialism and
potentially impacts on growth. The
status quo is no longer acceptable or
sustainable; action is required.
When pay is deemed unfair, it has
damaging effects on organisations.
When the leaders of companies are
given disproportionately higher rewards,
employees cannot help but feel that
different rules apply to their bosses. This
undermines trust and their commitment
to the business.
In looking into what has happened to pay
at the top, this investigation has been
forced to explore what too has been going
on in our businesses. It is clear from this
investigation that this wage inequality
is part of a toxic form of free market
capitalism – a winner takes all system
that allows monopolies to accrue and
discourages the entrepreneurialism it is
meant to facilitate.

This issue goes deeper than high pay;
this debate is fundamentally about
not just who gets what, but also how
businesses should behave, and what
our economy should look like. This
government has called for a rebalancing
of the economy and we support this call.
In getting there, we must move away
from an economy predicated on a flow of
rewards to the top.
A business model where corporate
profits accrue in the hands of the few
is deeply flawed and over the long term
unsustainable. We urge government and
businesses to take on board the findings
of this Commission and act now to begin
the process of restoring trust and building
a fairer, more sustainable economy.

Borders, if you read my previous lines on this thread, I did mention that the current management team at RM could hardly be classed in the entreprenurial category. What I was trying to point out is that a workers take over of this business is a non starter and the person who put this forward was basically intimating that if there was a takeover, no matter what your job, everyone would need to be on the same wage. You no as much as I do that would be a non starter. As for the High Pay Commission, I totally agree with their stance and actively support this. That does not mean that it is sensible for everyone to be paid the same. There has to be levels of pay for expertise etc., but not to the degree that has been allowed to manifest itself in this capitalistic look after number 1 society we have now.
