It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

You're going to laugh at this postman, but, I didn't actually get a letter - I was handing them out this morning to the people addressed - I wasn't one - which goes to show how up to date the data base is because I'm still shown as a member- someone will give me theirs and - if it's appropriate, I'll PM you a copy. The branch I belonged to is peopled by wannabes and not wannados.POSTMAN wrote:What does it say,can you get a copy and scan it up for us?the branch I used to belong to has actually sent a letter to people at my office who aren't members

They're aren't messing about ft. I believe it isn't only a question of money but of dumping RM as quickly as possible. Quite cleverly they have largely avoided public confrontation by not including post offices.
Vince has gone the whole hog, whereas Mandy was only going for 30/50% - two trains of thought really - should the CWU have accepted Mandys' proposal as the lesser of two evils and perhaps the thought of only having part ownership of the company with a government watchdog put investors off last time. Of course the Tories are also the friend of big business and will move heaven, earth and legislation to make all things possible.

No, we did the right thing, when we fought it. Just as we must fight it again. Remember: The Public don't want us to be privatised either.dvbuk55 wrote:They're aren't messing about ft. Frankly I don't think the public give a toss anymore and it will have no bearing at all on the legislation put before parliamentarians. They are the ones who will vote, not joe public. Will there be a public enquiry? - nah - especially if as leaked to the CWU the bill is to be put before the commons next week!!! Not much time to mount a campaign is there.andy2007 wrote:No, we did the right thing, when we fought it. Just as we must fight it again. After a decade of having thier letter-boxes "stuffed with junk mail" delivered by "thieving Nigerian agency posties" at 3pm, most seem to welcome the idea in the naive belief that "things will get better" after privatisation.Frankly I don't think the public give a toss anymore
I agree, they don't give a toss..

i disagree, people do give a toss and when asked , as in the latest poll on RM privatisation the majority voted for RM to stay in public hands.Tman wrote:After a decade of having thier letter-boxes "stuffed with junk mail" delivered by "thieving Nigerian agency posties" at 3pm, most seem to welcome the idea in the naive belief that "things will get better" after privatisation.Frankly I don't think the public give a toss anymore
I agree, they don't give a toss..
however, if also asked do they think their opinion will make any difference the answer is probably an overwhelmingly no and after a while people become disenfranchised and apathetic.

I'm sorry borders but your mistaking "having an opinion" with "willing to do anything about it".borders wrote:i disagree, people do give a toss and when asked , as in the latest poll on RM privatisation the majority voted for RM to stay in public hands.Tman wrote:After a decade of having thier letter-boxes "stuffed with junk mail" delivered by "thieving Nigerian agency posties" at 3pm, most seem to welcome the idea in the naive belief that "things will get better" after privatisation.Frankly I don't think the public give a toss anymore

Re: Unions pledge to resist Royal Mail privatisation
If after a while is next week, the bill is read and rushed through and then they explain that the huge bill for bailing out the banks would be lessened slightly by selling the distribution and delivery side of RM "with safeguards of course" to a reputable third party and that would make any further investment by the Government unnecessary in the short term and thereby shorten the recovery time ....................yes I can see them kicking off - after all they'll still have their local post office controlled by Westminster and probably the same bloke delivering their mail..................man the barricadesborders wrote:i disagree, people do give a toss and when asked , as in the latest poll on RM privatisation the majority voted for RM to stay in public hands.Tman wrote:After a decade of having thier letter-boxes "stuffed with junk mail" delivered by "thieving Nigerian agency posties" at 3pm, most seem to welcome the idea in the naive belief that "things will get better" after privatisation.Frankly I don't think the public give a toss anymore

Re: Unions pledge to resist Royal Mail privatisation
The 'winding up' of our pension scheme eh........Bullshit!!dingo wrote:This would mean protentially the seperation off or the winding up of our pension scheme. As Post Office counters would continue to be owned by the Governement whereas Royal Mail would be owned by shareholders.
That would cost the goverment well in excess of the reported deficit. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
Translation: it would be illegal for us to strike to oppose privitisation but we can strike about the pension even though we didn't even ballot yous when your pension was changed, breaking the pledge we made at the end of the 2007 dispute. However if our members pensions was at risk including the assets of our pension scheme was going to be robbed by the government then a trade union would consult its members and that would include industrial action.
Of course the union would launch a campaign and there would be a postal ballot with the strictist employment laws in europe governing the ballot.
your defferd pay that was cut by over 25% and no strike ballot was held, shame!I have no doubt if the work was done and the members knew what the arguements were they would support a yes vote.
I have said it before , you would not be voting for the CWU , Dave Ward , Billy Hayes , Dingo , the truth , dvbuk or Fishtank , you will be deciding whether your going to support the Government and Royal Mail`s decison to rob your defered pay. Remember your pension is your defered pay.
I'll vote no because i do not trust the leaders of our union. There is a lot going on behind the scenes so hopefully it wont come to a ballot. But if it does and if them members back the union again then what are you going to do ?
