Two good points there by Jim and Shiggaddi, shoredogg i'd take their advice.
See your rep and explain your position and what the guys have said on here,if he wants to argue it send him on here.
Sometimes there has to be exceptions in all this mayhem and if you was at my place i'd advise you to go in.
Good luck mate.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

In his position I would go in - but I would make sure everyone else knew that otherwise I would be supporting the union. Also if you get a proper contract later make sure that you are at the forefront of any union discussion when they need your support. Good luck.

Yes, these people are due to start in any day now for training. Also there were more people employed on a 1 year contract starting around this time last year, who have had it extended another 6 months.MDEC101 wrote:Mdec has employed people on a 6 month fixed contract, about 30 people to backfill Monday to Friday late teams.
Also, I believe we still have some agency staff in on lates.

In an ideal world he'd be safe to do as he pleases but your right. Management would have an dodgy excuse to drop him after his 12 weeks is up, my badKawasakiKid wrote:Durden wrote:That's bollocks. I don't wish to step on your union reps toes but I'm afraid your guy is giving you poor information.Durden, How can a single employee who has only just started, not in the union, has not been balloted, not got a permanent contract, GO ON STRIKE and hope to get a new contract when it's up for renewal? Maybe his rep is trying to look after him as he is a newbie!!!!!!!!!---------A KWESTIONING KWAK

Gaz my experience is slightly different, I got taken on a 12 week FT contract at Maidstone MC ( along with about 7 or 8 others ) at the end, one got a transfer to Battle ( I think - he lives in Bexhill ), 2 were taken on permanantly & me and another fella got offered 12 FT weeks at Sevenoaks DO, near the end, I was offered a perm PT contract ( the other fella had jacked by this time, citing distance ) and 6 months on, I'm still there - so it can happen ( not happy about the PT, but I'm on a FT walk, so money is made up a bit with OT ).biggazza wrote:in my experience i dont like being the bearer of bad news but once your 12 weeks are up that will prob be it your dom will say goodbye and ask if needed can he contact you again and he will give u another short term contractDurden wrote:In an ideal world he'd be safe to do as he pleases but your right.
