Re: Dogs
Walk logs and proper training has gone out the window due to pressure to get out quickly and get the job done in time. People don't do proper van checks either - otherwise there'd be a cacophony of horns being beeped in the yard around 9am.
TBH - just use common sense. If the dog is contained then there shouldn't be any danger. If the dog is loose then avoid it if at all possible. That sorts out about 98% of the issues. The other 2% you were just in the wrong place at wrong time - hazard of the job just like crossing roads 2000 times a year.

Re: Dogs
It's not mutually exclusive but Lower income areas do seem to have more(what's the politically correct term for shitholes?) and in turn Dogs running around the front gardens with little to no disregard of anybody who might have to come to the house.

Re: Dogs
It's the dogs behind the letterbox which are the issue, the ones in gardens usually let themselves known as soon as you touch the front gate.Racingpostie wrote: ↑19 Jun 2026, 18:46It's not mutually exclusive but Lower income areas do seem to have more(what's the politically correct term for shitholes?) and in turn Dogs running around the front gardens with little to no disregard of anybody who might have to come to the house.

Re: Dogs
"I could hear the dog going mental when I knocked, so I took some distance to the end of the drive. When she eventually opened the door, the dog was behind her legs. I asked her to put the dog away, which she refused
. She told me how soft it was and that it didn’t know how to bite
. I told her, 'For twelve pounds an hour and an afternoon in the local medical centre, it’s not worth the risk. I’ll have to take the parcel back if you cannot put the dog away.' She said, 'Twelve pounds an hour? I wish I’d earned that,' and slammed the door. Looking at her and the house, I doubt she’s needed or been to work for the last thirty years
."

Re: Dogs
I just do dogs officially and leave it to the managers.
Dog-dots on the frame, notices in the walk-log, ERICA (or witnessed note to manager), stand well back from door, ask them to restrain dog ("oh it wouldn't hurt anyone"...."grrrrrrrr"....."snaarrrrl") and if not complied with, simply walk off and return mail to office with "dog loose" endorsement and left on manangers in-tray.
Rattle gate and whistle (any noise will do) and if in doubt endorse 'dog hazard' and return to depot.
I make the managers do the work. Its their job.
With later finish times, the hazrds will surely increase as whats the first thing they do when they get the kids back from school/.....let the dog out. So there will be more dog to the job than previously?
Zero tolerance, official policy and recording.
