I cut it short as I'm a human being, who didn't have the bandwidth in the moment to pull up the exact wording and felt the gist would do.

A lot of policies have been quietly rewritten in the last couple of years what always used to be the case is pretty much not any more.

As is often the case in RM the word "may" gives a manager plenty of wiggle room to be a total arse but still act well within the parameters to the procedure
