Always a good tactic to record meetings where the employer/employee relationship has broken down. Employers nearly always say things during formal meetings that, when reduced to writing, they dearly regret. Quoting back at them anything “incriminating” they may have said invariably eases and hastens the path to financial negotiations/compromise agreement territory.

But clandestine recordings from a dictaphone-type device rattling about while concealed in your pocket will always result in sections of the recorded conversation being inaudible on playback and/or ambiguity as to what was said. Best solution is to place a cheap Tascam or Zoom recorder slap bang in the middle of the table so it captures everybody clearly and audibly.

Be upfront, before the meeting, and try to agree that a recording be made by consent, perhaps even agreeing to email them a copy of the audio file before concluding the meeting, but making clear you will be recording it in any event so there is an impartial and unabridged verbatim record of what was said and by whom. You will need to produce a verbatim transcript of the audio if you wish to deploy it as evidence further down the line. Whether it goes against any employer’s “policy” to record meetings is neither here nor there — it will be perfectly admissible in any legal proceedings that might ensue.

Be as honest as you want but make sure you have a rep with you as a witness and can oversee proceedings.
Whats the rep going to do? pretend they care? If you need help speak to citizens advice way more helpful than a CWU rep, they literally work for RM, surely the last deal they made would be a big enough clue that they actually don't give a stuff about you, they just want your subs.

Notifying absence and agreeing
contact arrangements

Where an employee is unable to attend for
work due to illness, they must notify their
manager as soon as possible, before the
beginning of their shift or usual work start time
and in accordance with the local arrangements
set out for their office or work location.

The employee should advise their manager of
the reason for their absence, the likely duration
and anticipated return date. There should also
be a discussion between the manager and
the employee about any support which Royal
Mail Group may be able to offer, including
any support that may be able to assist the
employee in their return to work.

Where the employee’s absence is going to
be longer than a few days, the manager and
employee should agree how they will maintain
contact during the period of the absence,
both the level of contact - how often, and the
method e.g. email, telephone conversation.

This is to ensure that managers are kept fully
aware of the situation, can reallocate work and
plan ahead where necessary.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Play Nicely Boys!

We all know there's a range of Managers and Union Reps across the Business. Some are good at their jobs others are Incompetent at Best and Dishonest at Worst. Lets not Tar them all with the same Brush.

You should know which type your Manager and Rep are ... Treat them accordingly. In the past I have found a recording useful for making notes afterwards. There's so much you often forget. :arrrghhh

On the original post: I'd tend to Self Certify after intially informing your Office and refuse ''The Invitation'' (because that's what it is) to attend a meeting with your Manager. If it's NOT Likely to become Long Term Sick or it's not a Mental Health issue there's NO reason why your Manager should be hassaling you. :no no

As for Managers liking to have all their staffs mobile numbers... Tough Tit! ..... IMO it's out of order. Until RM provide Mobile Phones and Pay the contracts do not let them con you into using them to run THEIR business! I'm refering to the lastest habit of them telling you to download THEIR Apps. If anyone at work tries to phone me I block that number, as suggested. Good Luck, Get Well Soon. :cuppa
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)
