Elsewhere on the forum you have claimed to be a DWP assessor/decision-maker. The spelling, punctuation and grammar in your posts on here would suggest you are awful at your job. I should imagine you have an above-average rate of your decisions overruled or set aside by the FTT and UT. And that’s if you even are a DWP EO - about which I have my doubts!Navalron wrote: ↑25 Aug 2024, 08:22Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 16:55What was the point of your post, ex colleague? Next shop workers win equal pay claim
More than 3,500 current and former workers at Next have won the final stage of a six-year legal battle for equal pay.
An employment tribunal said store staff, who are predominantly women, should not have been paid at lower rates than employees in warehouses, who are typically male.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cj0817jd9dqo
Surely this means that Royal Mail aren't going to get away with paying new starters less for much longer?
This Next legal battle was looking at warehouse workers pay v shop workers pay (2 different types of job) and it was decided they should get equal pay.
At Royal Mail it's postie pay v postie pay.

Pay slip was way off mark, your general attitude towards old contracts laughable, the opinion they are better!
Is it ok for RM to be delivering less than 80% of 1st class mail the next day(quoted, but not reality)?
I’m guessing you’re 150kg & sitting in a nice warm office somewhere in London.

but what do I know. I don't know how quickly or easily pay will be equalised. The CWU are supposed to be pushing for wages to be equal and after this Next lawsuit, maybe they'd admit they can't continue paying different amounts and put all the newer starters on the same wages as the old guard.

And Next are also appealing against the ruling as well, FFS they reported £918 million in annual pre-tax profits last year!
These legal cases never happen overnight but could set a precedent with similar claims against Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's etc. Royal Mail said the reason why they introduced these new inferior contracts is due to their financial position and because they are competing against the gig economy. If the company once again made record profits I'm certain there would be a really good case for levelling up these contracts, but a lot of that could depend on the possible new owner and how much further "investment" needs to be ploughed into the company.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: New start basic
It’s a good(ish) thing Next is appealing the ET judgment. Employment Tribunal judgments, while persuasive to other tribunals, aren’t binding and don’t set legal precedent, and so it needs definitive judicial guidance from the Employment Appeal Tribunal (and, probably, the Court of Appeal) before the principles are properly distilled and clarified and there is hopefully a leading precedent which can be used to benefit workers across the country.

OK. I will revise it:
So we only have to (a) wait for someone with big pockets to raise a case against RM, and then (b) RM to fight it, and then (c) the individual to win it, and then (d) RM to appeal it, and then (e) RM to lose (twice! why once isn't enough?) so it's really not OK. And then.... level field for all staff.
I don't know if I'll live to see it.

Smoothbackground, yes I do work for DWP where I am a union rep also. My spelling and punctuation may not be great but I don't use spellchecker when browsing through royal mail chat. I am not an assessment officer , I am an adjudication officer. Big difference. I check claims on certain sections and I'm not medically trained to make a decision on esa, new esa, ect. I don't really care about what you think I do or don't do. You just seem to go out your way to try and stir trouble up. Now away and make your boss his tea and biscuits because you might get away 4hours early again.Navalron wrote: ↑25 Aug 2024, 08:22Smoothbackground wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 16:55What was the point of your post, ex colleague? Are you practising your spelling, punctuation and grammar in the hope of improving it beyond the standard of a five-year-old?Navalron wrote: ↑21 Aug 2024, 13:37If your getting £14.87 per hour your in the London area. Otherwise it's £12.54 for the new contracts, with no paid breaks, no delivery supplement, no free ( retention and recruitment supplement) which in the South of England d is worth on average £35 per week per postie. And bye the sound of it you better go and wash your mouth out because your managers xxxx is all over your tounge. You've been in the job 5 minutes and think you know it all. But your managers will screw you over eventually, or perhaps they have already done that to you also.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑18 Aug 2024, 18:09No desperation here, chum. Just keen to set out a balanced and informed post to counter the misinformation and negativity above. I’m very happy with my contract and RM employment, thank you. Hard work is rewarded at our place — by way of example, I was allowed to leave at 12.00 noon today (instead of 4.00 pm) as a thank you from the Lead COM for what he called my hard work this week and for going above and beyond.Bounced_Czech wrote: ↑18 Aug 2024, 18:00Lol. Your utter desperation to defend the new RM contracts on here is actually laughableSmoothbackground wrote: ↑18 Aug 2024, 15:59People are “getting sent to any office”?! That doesn’t happen. Even those posties whose offices are closed on a Sunday have a specified Sunday hub from which they work — and they are paid from the minute they clock on with their PDA when picking up their van from their own office (ie paid travel time). You’re clearly not part of the Sunday Elite Club hence your lack of knowledge on how it works.![]()

good one smoothbackround, maybe my spelling isn't great but that doesn't stop me doing my job. You see, I defend all my fellow workmates day in day out. Unlike you, I get the feeling your not a team player. Now toddle off and do your job. Remember and do a good job now, so you can be the managers best friend.
