There's at least one case in our place, who told them he wouldn't retire at 67 and then literally phoned in sick the day after his birthday. I don't know if he ended up being paid off or not, but he certainly was paid for a year on the sick when there was obviously nothing wrong with him. Now that's an extreme example of the lengths some will go to, but it certainly happens.

While this is possibly unfair, we have had several in our office that have played the mental health card and are happy to admit it privately.
Very unfair on the genuine cases.

You can’t ’play a mental health card’. Doctors recognise legitimate mental health issues and those that are not. The only way you can play the system is to get time off work, but that is why the sick policy was changed, because too many people were taking the piss. You are not going to be paid to leave RM without being properly diagnosed as the OP clearly has.

This whole mental health stigma is an invention by the media, and is just the newest in a long line of attempts to scapegoat people with legitimate grievances - see also benefit claimants, asylum seekers, immigrants etc etc. It is a rotating cycle of which mental health suffers have now found themselves a part of.

Not a chance. You cannot con a doctor into diagnosing a mental health issue if you don’t have one and there is zero chance of RM paying people off that haven’t been diagnosed by legitimate experts in their field.

You can't be serious? Of course you can !
Mental health is the new bad back for diagnosis, plenty have and continue to use it knowing the hassle of somebody saying they doesn't suffer with it could have massive repercussions.

I am serious. You aren’t getting paid to leave RM for mental health reasons without being properly assessed by professionals. Why would they when they can let the sick process play out and pay you nothing?
