Anyone heard of anyone cutting down to 3 days a week?

I've been pushing the union rep for these. He wont budge, so I wont be staying when I reach 60. A younger bloke in our office approached management for this, and was refused only last week.

Pretty sure i know the answer but thought i’d ask. Currently a P/T of 7 years on 30 hours a week (been offered F/T before but turned it down).

In an ideal world i cut down to 3 days a week full time hours on them 3 days (so approx 22 hour weeks). I’m assuming i would get laughed out the managers office if i suggested this, as everyones hours seem to be set a rigid 24, 30 or f/t. Anyone know of anyone on different hours and if it’s possible?

I think this is yet another thing, the list is getting longer, which depends on the office you work in and what the manager is like.

We have a chap who reduced down to 3 days, still has a walk pick and doesn’t job share. A previous DOM arranged this with him.

If someone else were to ask for this now, it wouldn’t happen because the new DOM is riddled with inertia and can’t make a decision so things drag on unresolved for months.

Two guys in my DO job share on same duty. They do 6 on then 6 days off, I do envy them but can't afford to go part time.

How would this work regarding which days you work? Would it be the same three days every week, or does it depend on the whims of a manager?
Also, should there be any offers of voluntary redundancy, would you be offered a lot less?

It will probably depend upon your depot, the managers and the duty structures being used.

We have a limited group of full timers with 1-in-4 Saturdays off, whose day off rotates between Mon/Tues/Weds/Sat. There are then an even smaller number of part timers covering the days off of three of those duties, doing three shifts a week on rotation of Mon/Tues/Weds/Sat. So every four weeks, the part time cover gets a Thurs-Mon inclusive long weekend.
