So 1,000 a month, that's about 12,000 a year. Given that (according to Wikipedia) there are about 90,000 postmen/women, that's a turnover rate of about 13%, which (https://www.monster.co.uk/advertise-a-j ... over-rate/) seems to be average.

I left in May …….walked straight into a new job after 18 1/2 years ….I felt I had lost £1800 for nothing …..the Union being as complicit in this utter mess as the Company , never really forgave the Union for the d2d sellout a few years back .
It will not get any better , they’re hellbent on giving 18yr olds crap contracts and delivering into the twilight .
Miss the lads but that’s all …..I now have no weekend working , less stress , no walking miles everyday with little thanks .

Though I'd expect the RM has historically been significantly lower than average.

I also imagine recruitment isn't meeting demand.

My office used to have 72 people now down to 61.

With 2 due to get IHR, 3 due to retire in next 6 months and another 1 working their notice period. All full timers.

In the last 18 months I've jumped up about 10 spaces on the "seniority list" due to people leaving. Not that it means anything.

A few weeks ago on a saturday, nobody at all on IPS.

A fair few were 20 plus years but not retirement age.

We also recently had 16 new starters and 13 of them turned it down after seeing the contract and the remaining 3 quit on the induction.

There are jobs out there and ours has gone to absolute pot.
Our Lino said they were queuing up to join us.. strange the ones who started with us are now leaving or already gone
Royal Mail thinking these new contracts will attract people and they’re having the opposite effect.

I'm up 12 places tomorrow in the same time frame but more than that have left below me and more walks are being ripped out of the office, so my seniority is actually getting worse.

Most of the ones leaving from our office are the new recruits....

A lot of the recruits don't seem to be 'all there', like the managers are scraping the bottom of the barrel of people they can even get into interviews...

The new contracts are on less pay and you have to work Sundays....I think people sign up for it knowing they will hate working Sundays and with the idea that they will quit somewhere down the line, though some jump ship within days or weeks.

What happens if they can't sustain a sunday workforce.... are they going to come after the staff on the Mon-Sat contracts and force us to work Sundays - then more people will be out the door, people that are currently happy enough in the job, but as soon as Sundays are added they are off.

Quite a few have left, one done 24 years he later got another job, some only came in and did a few weeks and left, it's not the job it used to be.

27 yrs in but the jobs finished now and only going to get worse sadly.

I find this blinkered obsession with seniority hilarious.....so once in a blue moon there's a re-sign and dependent on how long you've been with RM determines how quick you will have your pick on duties.

Occasionally it applies to annual leave. Other than that - when does it actually mean anything?

It might mean something if they start culling staff again. Highest seniority could benefit from getting payoffs. Also, if they chose to cull the newer staff, you ideally want to be high up the seniority list as possible to avoid being culled yourself.
