Re: How safe are our pensions?
I’m slightly siding with Milly here , I’m under the impression that the financial markets, and world governments etc are on an agenda to make us definitely poorer and having less freedoms etc etc . But hey ho try not to worry and see what happens hopefully I’m wrong
as I’m unable to change things myself

Re: How safe are our pensions?
I know it's pretty difficult for people to get their noodle around my so called "conspiracy theories" but considering that most people are up to their eyeballs in debt and Central Banks can print money out of thin air, it wouldn't be much of a stretch for Banks to bailout mortgage holders in exchange for equity in your home, hence the WEF "you will own nothing and be happy".Meloned1 wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 08:10I’m slightly siding with Milly here , I’m under the impression that the financial markets, and world governments etc are on an agenda to make us definitely poorer and having less freedoms etc etc . The whole Central Banking system is set up to keep the Elites rich and us poor.
Financially independent Plebs are a terrifying prospect for the Elites as they would have limited control over us.
You can change things, we all can, you could start by educating yourself and friends and family about what money is and how it's created.

As much as I think conspiracy theories are the work of paranoiacs searching for something to fill the empty spaces where their brains ought to be, there is a lot to be said for people being better informed about how money works, and why they end up in debt and chasing dreams that just seem ever more expensive and out of reach. It's not part of any great grand plan, but it is the way the dice are loaded.

Re: How safe are our pensions?
I don't really go along with all this elite/government verses the poor conspiracy stuff, because to some degree it's always been the case. The people in charge will always make their money from the hard work and taxes of the working classes. It's not new!
In my opinion, the best thing anyone can do is to educate themselves about how money affects them in their day to day lives, and try and avoid the credit culture as much as possible. Something that should be taught at school!
Save up for things, overpay your mortgage, look for the best deals, don't pay over the odds. Generally, make the most of your money!

It's extremely difficult to make the most of your money when it is being inflated away.RobertT wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 13:28I don't really go along with all this elite/government verses the poor conspiracy stuff, because to some degree it's always been the case. Inflation isn't much of a worry to the Elites as they own assets which in general increase with inflation.

But according to your comment in this thread(26/9/22): viewtopic.php?p=998618#p998618, you've 'positioned yourself into inflation loving assets sometime ago'.
So for you is it a case of, if you can't beat them, join them?

However most of my cash is tied up in a few Royal Mail Pensions that unfortunately are invested in crap such as Government debt and due to the rules I am unable to move that money into my Sipp.

You can transfer your RMPP(2012+) benefits into a SIPP if you want to: https://www.royalmailpensionplan.co.uk/ ... rring-out/milly wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:07I have decent amount in Precious Metal Stocks,Energy Stocks, Commodities, Telecoms, Tobacco and Emerging Markets.

That's the only element of your RM pension that is invested in anything, apart from any AVC's you may have, which can also be transferred.
It's only possible to transfer your RMSPS benefits into another DB scheme.

It's theoretically possible but in practice it is extremely difficult with no guarantee of success.RobertT wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:16You can transfer your RMPP(2012+) benefits into a SIPP if you want to: https://www.royalmailpensionplan.co.uk/ ... rring-out/milly wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:07I have decent amount in Precious Metal Stocks,Energy Stocks, Commodities, Telecoms, Tobacco and Emerging Markets.

True and there is the £30k limit to consider. But there are IFA's who will facilitate transfers if they think it's in your best interests.milly wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:27It's theoretically possible but in practice it is extremely difficult with no guarantee of success.RobertT wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:16You can transfer your RMPP(2012+) benefits into a SIPP if you want to: https://www.royalmailpensionplan.co.uk/ ... rring-out/milly wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:07I have decent amount in Precious Metal Stocks,Energy Stocks, Commodities, Telecoms, Tobacco and Emerging Markets.

What you need to to do, is find one who shares your loathing of the 'elite'. You could then put your money in more inflation loving investments, just like them.

Re: How safe are our pensions?
A transfer is a total non-starter as it will be nigh on impossible to find an IFA who would facilitate a transfer.RobertT wrote: ↑10 Apr 2023, 20:33True and there is the £30k limit to consider. So I'm stuck in a Pension that is guaranteed to be inflated away, ironically I can't transfer my Royal Mail Pension because deemed to be very safe, when it's anything but safe.
