At long last, this scandalous practise of absorption, is being brought out into the public domain.

To deliberately understaff offices, have rounds with no dedicated postman assigned to them, and expect staff with already large, heavy rounds, to take up the slack, has been largely disastrous from day one.

If they want staff to earn every last penny of their wages, they should make sure there's work in the office for them to do if they get back early.

If management can't do that, tough.
Exactly put. I can no longer finish within time. My walk, plus double absorption which isn’t even in the same place, can’t be done within time.

The practice of making us say at the beginning how much longer we think it will take, rather than just writing the xs on a sheet at the end, is treating us like children who have to ask permission to be paid the correct amount.
’You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.’

Hardly a crammed fitting is it
That's what I'm thinking. And zooming in you can see a lot of what's there is D2D shite.
Is d2d shite not classed as live mail.

This has been going on for years and years even before the pandemic at our office; it is not reported honestly and nothing is done to resolve the issue.
Same at ours. Delaying mail well before COVID.
Cutting hours and staff beyond the bone even then.

Anything that's not an RTS is live mail. Apart from D2D everything that arrives at a DO is due for delivery that day

Bet that was left in today because the other duty didn't go Saturday.
So yes it is possibly crammed or will be tomorrow when the other duty doesn't go out .

“ Jointly with our trade unions, we have revised routes throughout the country to ensure they are fairer and reflect the growth in addresses and parcel deliveries, and this is an ongoing process. This has had no impact on the quality of service received by our customers.”

Well that is a lie

Wish we only had double Lapsing . Triple in our office every day. If it's busier than expected then we have to complete Lapsing and bring our own uncompleted walk back. But parcels, especially tracked are a must every day.

A national ongoing dispute, rounds too big - they think we are lazy - try using a trolley to finish on time - some 10 walks gone, adding complete walks to make it 3, albeit the oversize should be going next week 🙈 How do you prep d2d ? More staff leaving, less sorters on the job, hoping people do both o.t and their days off. Can see 2/3 duties being done at best daily, don't even think about bullying, or adding pressure onto us. Our manager knows it won't work, whilst Thommo and board state their legal requirements - and deliberately fail. Don't blame us postie's ! We can't all be wrong/liars.

I'd give it three months tops before the oversize end up going back to the walks

Don’t suppose you know if RoN can optimise 1st & 2nd class parcels through their QR code?

No idea. My guess is based on past posts where the trend seems to be for the oversize going back to the walks

It can read them, and if it fails you can manually add an item anyway, it'll display as "dummy", just make sure you actually search the postcode or you'll have a stop in the middle of the postcode and no help on where you're taking it without looking at the item again.

Everything that comes into your and everybody else's office is 'live ' mail.
Even 2nd class-PPI-everything.
What goes in must go out.
That includes D2D 'shite' by the end of the week.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Going back over 30 years it was stamped 'live' took priority then franked then as we used to call them rebates. So doing the manual outward sorting we'd be told do the live stuff first :Very Happy

Once the mail arrives at the Inward MC it's all classed as Inward. The difference between 1st class and 2nd class is built into when it's dispatched from the Outward MC to the Inward MC. 1st class gets dispatched the same day that it arrives at the Outward MC. 2nd Class gets dispatched the next day. Apart from D2D everything that arrives at a DO is due for delivery on the day that it arrives in the DO
