How awful the CWU hasn't created a hardship fund since the dispute began so are the bad guys but the company who enforced a 2% rise(only 8% below inflation) and another 3.5% tied into actually losing money through allowances which would still leave us 4.5% below inflation are the good guys. Then throw in the massive bonuses paid to shareholders managers to help break strikes oh and the money paid out on casuals(Who thanks to Royal Mail's refusal to ever replace staff who have left are all on the higher rate of pay £17 an hour or £25 hour on Sundays that doesn't include Angaard's rate as well which is probably another 50% as well.)

We know things are tough right now. The cost of living is the highest it has been in 40 years and against that backdrop, we have had 18 days of CWU strike action. This has meant 18 days of lost pay for our employees.

We know that has a significant impact on everyone, and for some it’s even tougher. The CWU has been talking about setting up a hardship fund for its members for months, but nothing is currently in place.

You may not know this but the Rowland Hill Fund, the dedicated charity for postal workers, can help. When times get tough, the Rowland Hill fund has been there to help colleagues facing financial difficulties for a variety of reasons.

For over 140 years, financial aid has been available to Royal Mail Group colleagues since it was established in 1882 as a memorial to the great postal reformer and founder of the modern postal service, Sir Rowland Hill.

It’s seen our people through life-changing events such as health condition diagnoses, the global pandemic - Covid-19 and relocating people into safe locations.

To support Rowland Hill Fund, Royal Mail has donated money and provided ongoing benefit in kind support. We’ve also contributed towards fundraising through donation matching, competitions and spreading the word about the formidable fund. In turn, the charity has been able to help 456 colleagues with over £305,000 worth of grants provided to colleagues in need.

I mean is she wrong though? The hardship fund has been very hard to get for people and having to show bank statements to get itis humiliating. And CWU seems to skip over these questions on twitter and instead answers trolls to be funny

We announced the creation of a strike fund this week.

The National CWU and the National Executive is separate financially from your local branch finances in many aspects.

Contact your local Branch Secretary (or any other local Committee Official ) and find out what local financial provision for hardship your own branch can offer.

My branch has a Hardship Fund. The Fund has been accessed by local members of the branch to help with the welfare of those losing money due to the strike.

How each branch manage their finances is subject to strict national CWU rules of course, but many aspects of management are down to the individual branch.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't something available through the CWU locally.
