Why would the government care? We are a privately owned company, the regulator are the people that oversea Royal Mail. People seem to think the government can intervene in decisions made by privately owned companies. So long as any company are complying with relevant employment laws, nobody gives a shite.

But Royal Mail aren't.

But just complying with laws dosnt make them right does it?your right though, nobody seems to give a shite, well some people do but they/ us struggle to have influence

The Strikes suit the Government as they help to bring inflation down via demand destruction, it also has the added bonus that they can blame the workers for the inflation that the government and the Bank of England caused.

In this day and age you would have thought by now that things would be a lot more digital than they are....but we have not gone that digital even though the technology is there....

I recently bought my first home and you have to send a lot of paper documents back and forwards to your solicitor....is this ever going to go fully digital?

My Royal Mail contract is paper based (cannot remember if it was sent by post).

Our weekly payslips are paper based - why are we still getting paper based payslips?

NHS appointment letters are still sent by mail - why?

etc etc....and this goes for the whole country with all sorts of mailings.

A mail service will always be needed, but what I will say is.....we deliver so much junk mail - is it worth the companies while to deliver it - how much money do they make from it? if we didn't deliver junk mail then mail would definitely be down and they could have a smaller workforce. For all I know it's massively profitable and makes up for having to just go to a house with a single bank statement. A bank statement + 5 pieces of junk mail makes it worth it.

What makes it worth it norris, is the USO. I know you know this so I won't bang that particular drum.

Yes the "junk mail" as we all call it, is in fact massively profitable to the company. It also creates revenue in copious amounts for the companies that pay RM to deliver them. No one is forcing these companies to have them printed and delivered. They do it because it has value to them...end of.

As far as everything going digital...brace yourself! Sunak has already intimated that he wishes to move away from hard currency into digital. Amazingly, his father in law just so happens to own a company that deals specifically with this task! I know right! Seems like that might be a red flag, but no, apparently not.

Before the digital thing, when we used to go into high street banks, in order for someone to empty your account they would really need to be in the branch, not so in the digital world. They don't even need to be in the same country! How many ways would you accept any of your digital information being stolen before you decide that actually, it isn't acceptable? If someone wants to steal my bank statement they'd have to either break into the bank, any of the various steps for sending mail including MC, DO, postvan etc. or they'd have to break into my house. All of those would require being in the same country and being brave or stupid enough to pull it off!
Digital my arse! Sure does make life easier though...If your a criminal.
