Re: The union master plan
As for the union, I’ve noticed they prioritise different industries each week. One week it’s RM, then it’s BT or post office or whoever. I get they have to intensify resources but communication needs work.
I’m getting the feeling they are running out of options. They could either ramp up the industrial action (more strike dates, ballot for work to rule) and throw in a few curveballs - such as insisting on thorough van checks each day with vans logged off for taped on wing mirrors, broken doors etc, and as I suggested last week perhaps tear up the average holiday agreement and start helping everyone put in private claims to ACAS.
Or resign themselves to accepting we aren’t going to get what we want and negotiate to see what kind of deal we could get. Meet RM in the middle, even though that wouldn’t be a popular option.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Re: The union master plan
Given that Ward is focusing on BT Openworld today and their strikes I wouldn't put too much hope in him. One day Royal Mail, one day Post Office, one day BT Openworld etc etc...
It might be worth asking Ward what days of his 5 day working week he concentrates on Royal Mail, so that you only need to look for information updates on those days.
No wonder Thompson can keep bulldozing on..he only has RM to think about.

Ward is the figurehead and there are the deputy general secretarys who deal day to day with the specific sector the CWU represents

Don't quote me on this because I'm only getting this second hand but one of my work mates has just texted me to say the takeover by Faisal is going ahead . Has anybody else heard this same news ?

People need to start coming to terms with where this company is heading & it should be no surprise because terms & conditions have slowly gotten worse in the past 15 years.
These new changes are now accelerating faster for the worse but were we seriously expecting them to stay this way for the foreseeable future, anybody who thinks so is in fantasy land. Put up a fight be be realistic.

Its normally done over years bit by bit take something away one year and something another but .st.is trying to ram every crap t&c through all at once, dont forget we pay the union to put up a fight thats the whole point of a union we should see if the rolling strikes work instead of the odd days.Ppat98 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2022, 13:08People need to start coming to terms with where this company is heading & it should be no surprise because terms & conditions have slowly gotten worse in the past 15 years.

Re: The union master plan
Yes I'm aware of that, but neither Pullinger or his Acting replacement whilst poorly (I can't remember his name) can do much without Ward being present. I have never read of Pullinger going into negotiations without Ward.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑06 Oct 2022, 11:40That’s why we have the position Terry Pullinger holdspriority102 wrote: ↑06 Oct 2022, 11:27Given that Ward is focusing on BT Openworld today and their strikes I wouldn't put too much hope in him. I think the CWU are at breaking point at the moment, with most of the trades they represent (very large trades at that) being in full on dispute with the employers (and to levels not seen in recent years), and Ward having to juggle his 5 day week between them. As I said before, whilst Ward is concentrating on BT Openworld today, Post Office another day etc nothing much can be done with RM. In the meantime, RM members are sitting EVERY DAY wondering if there is any news from the CWU.
With Ward being fully occupied with BT Openworld's strikes today, I'm surprised Thompson didn't play tactics and call a meeting with RM!

Re: The union master plan
There is no masterplan, and ultimately what can the union do? Removing our labour is the only thing available to the union. We can argue about length of strikes, or frequency of them but there's a cost of living crisis in the back ground that means push it too far and the strike will collapse with people forced to cross pickets.
There has been mistakes from the union, promising people a no strings payrise was a mistake from the start. There has never been a deal that doesn't involve some kind of change. Virtually everybody on here (and that's saying something) accepts change is coming, it's just to what degree and stopping some of the more extreme proposals currently being put forward. Dave Ward on about setting his proposals for how he thinks Royal Mail should be run is just time wasting, unless he has eyes on replacing the current CEO that isn't gonna happen is it. The union need to stop the political bollox, and focus on getting the message out to the media as to what we're doing and why.

We did get payrises in the not so distant past without it being linked to change, they want amazon style working now,why does there have to be a masterplan we either break them with strikes or we dont its very lopsided as the corporations have the government and money men backing them. There has never been a deal that doesn't involve some kind of change.

Apparently all divisional reps have been called to a meeting in London on Tuesday. Maybe something will come out of that

Re: The union master plan
why aren't we doing rolling strikes this month? Why do we have to wait until November for rolling strikes.
The single day strike action this month, won't have hardly any effect. Makes more sense to do rolling strikes as soon as possible, as it would cause so much more disruption. I'm going to continue to support striking, but single days at a time without it being rolling don't have enough of an effect. We keep waiting and it'll be too late.
