Hundreds of offices will now only move up to a maximum of 15 minutes. Those offices will move their start times in April 2024.
They can dream on if they think that'll happen. Unless the work comes in within about 15 mins of the time that it currently arrives at the Inward MC, the dispatches for both waves WILL be pushed back. There's no way that DO start times will be pushed back by anything less than 30 mins. An hour is more likely going to end up being the minimum across the board
Maybe the state of delivery offices has forced the companies hand. Deliveries are finding it very difficult to recruit and retain staff and later start times will make that crises even worse.

Many have other commitments after work like have children putting finishing times past school hours would mean a big exodus of staff.

There’s no point having later acceptance times if you have no one to deliver the mail.

I am very intrigued to see if any of the "hundreds" of 15 minute offices are north of the border, outside of main cities.
Hope I am going to be mistaken.
There has been little if any movement from Royal Mail's original position, members are being confused by the wording of the joint statement, it does not mean that offices who were originally cited to move 60-90 minutes will not be moving to those times. Scotland in particular has been hit hard and unfortunately because of the weather and the time it gets dark in Scotland this will mean misery for many Scottish members, unfortunately this impact has mostly been ignored both in the union and at Royal Mail.

If Royal Mail thought they had a recruitment and retention crisis in 2023 it will be nothing compared to what is to come.

They have come to this conclusion because the later start time on deliveries weren't based in reality. Just brute force we want 60/90 but if you break down the new arrival times and what that actually means many offices do not need to move arbitrarily by 60 mins at all. You just need to move to a time where there is no down time between wave 1 and 2.

for example.

An office I know of starts at 6:30. Their current wave 1 arrival time is 5:15am with 90%. Wave 2 roughly 7am. That mail currently sits there for an hour untouched unless early IPS is laid on. They are on IPS/prep until half 7 but more often than not longer. There is easily no down time between arrivals.

The new wave 1 arrival time is set for 5:45 with 90% maybe more. Wave 2 arrival time 7:30. Given that the office is still already prepping gone 7:30 there would still be no down time if they retained their current start time. It might be tight some days so I think starting 15 mins later would be a reasonable adjustment. Absolutely no need for 60mins.

They haven't come to any conclusion.

All the joint statement says is that the offices that are only moving 15 minutes will move in April.

The union says "hundreds" but there are over a thousand DOs.

Those that are moving 60-90 minutes will move between April and June.

Nothing has changed.

It's all just face saving wind and pish.

You're right, I jumped the gun. My mistake.
There is lots of hearsay saying that they are really struggling to make the times in Scotland and may not be able to come through with the original times.
Guess we'll have to wait and see.

You are wrong. These talks have been going on for months. Many offices will have to move by more than 15 mins. Many only by 15 mins. By no means does the majority need to move by the full 60/90. Im literally sat in front of a document of proposed arrival times now that shows this to be true. This document was not even the final product and largely believed to be worst case. I expect to see a revised one soon.

Im not privy to the data in that region. Only offices from my region. Speak to your rep. I think it goes without saying that offices out in the extremities will see the worst of it. Just the same as my region.

Scotland is a country not an extremity.

It is wild to me that two people who I trust to provide us with info such as this are so conflicted.

Isn’t that just Royal Mail in a nutshell. Everyone knows everything and nothing all at the same time.

Until we get the new arrival times at the Inward MCs 100% confirmed, any estimate by anyone about how much start times in DOs will change are frankly bullshit.

You need to allow time for the Inward MC to process the mail. Will any mech be walk sort only or will they make us sequence it (wave 2)? If they make us sequence the wave 2 again, the estimated time to sequence a wave 2 batch is 20mins (well that's what used to be allocated per wave 2 batch).

I don't think they've factored in the lorries going to the DOs getting caught in traffic, they most certainly will get caught in traffic for most wave 2 runs. My gut feeling is that they'll make wave 1 late enough that they can do away with any drivers on night rate and have then either on early rate or the normal daytime rate.

I just don’t believe you have because if you had you would come to the same conclusion as myself. None of the estimated start times correlated with what was actually happening and going to happen in DO’s. Nearly all were later than needed to be bar the furthest out DOs.

No need to get salty about what Scotland is. All that matters is how far out they are from central hubs and MCs. Just how deepest Cornwall will be more greatly effected than say Birmingham and it’s satellite towns.

Iv provided an example of exactly what was proposed and how it was nonsense. That will replicate itself up and down the country. Not exactly and to varying degrees.

Copy and paste the lot of what you have. I won’t as to not dox myself but you have it all so it won’t matter.

I suspect we are reading different things from regional perspectives. I am in the south. They are in Scotland. I would expect parts of Scotland to be more greatly effected than my patch.

MC nightshifts will finish at 8am.
