This post makes total sense and is enough to convince me to vote yes.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑09 Feb 2023, 11:37Even if you disagree with the union you should vote yes
Why?
Because if you don't you're letting them off the hook and allowing them to blame the membership for not getting a deal.
We do our part, we give them all the support we can.
Then it's on the leadership to do their part.
I'm not giving them a get out of jail card at this stage.

Anything but a yes and the union is dead to RM. The entire purpose of Simon Thompson is to break the union and give the company a blank cheque to turn us into Hermes 2.0.
It's not an exaggeration - if you vote no, or don't vote at all, then the company will push through whatever they like, knowing that we will never stand up again. It's not the union's fault that it's got to this stage, it's the company's, and quitting now is telling RM that you side with them over us.

Re: yes or no in ballot
Is there a reason that the ballot is once again for strike action only ?

Because there's no way you'd get colleagues to comply with an O/T ban if that's what you're suggesting.
Many P/T'ers and even F/T'ers rely on OT.
What else would you suggest short of strike action?

I agree that all colleagues would not comply with an O/T ban but not all colleagues are striking either. I don’t really understand all of the options but I assume we could work to rule as in following the correct procedures, especially where vehicles are concerned.yellowbelly wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 17:48Because there's no way you'd get colleagues to comply with an O/T ban if that's what you're suggesting.

Re: yes or no in ballot
It would never work. You've only got to look at the ones who stab you in the back to get overtime over you. Had this done to me and lost out. They are the sort who would never comply with a ban. Unfortunately striking is the only way to hit back.Caesar wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 17:59I agree that all colleagues would not comply with an O/T ban but not all colleagues are striking either. Re: yes or no in ballot
Its a yes from me but we have to hit them hard early on and stick by all those reps who have been suspended, they put their necks on the line for us ,the union bosses and us owe them we need whole weekly strikes,im a bit disappointed how we have let them be suspended for so long as soon as they started that tactic we should of been out and stayed out,we set a bad precedent ,lets hope members start growing a set.

Don't know about you but mine has helped me out on numerous occasions and is always leading from the front when we need to reign the bosses in for bullying and harassment, needless to say he is suspended and no doubt will be sacked if we dont stand and fight, none of our office can afford to strike but would all be willing for longer strikes to help our rep and friend, its time to stick together if we dont win we will all be out of a job in the not so distant future.aiden01 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2023, 18:58In what way do reps put there neck on the line for us.guardianangel wrote: ↑11 Feb 2023, 17:37Its a yes from me but we have to hit them hard early on and stick by all those reps who have been suspended, they put their necks on the line for us ,the union bosses and us owe them we need whole weekly strikes,im a bit disappointed how we have let them be suspended for so long as soon as they started that tactic we should of been out and stayed out,we set a bad precedent ,lets hope members start growing a set.

In my opinion work to rule is the same as doing the job properly which is what people should be doing already.Caesar wrote: ↑10 Feb 2023, 17:59I agree that all colleagues would not comply with an O/T ban but not all colleagues are striking either. At a time when Royal Mail want to change our shifts and look at new ways of working that primarily involve bigger outdoor duties it doesn't really make any sense whatsoever why people aren't doing the job properly anyway.
And my advice to posties who solely rely on Royal Mail for overtime to pay the bills is to find additional sources of income or get another job because the company are constantly looking at ways of saving money.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If every single postie in the country did exactly what they are supposed to do , no more no less. Worked the hours paid and did the job exactly as instructed the company would collapse within two weeks . The management know it. The union and the posties too, But they all kid themselves.

A work to rule is completely different from doing the job properly.Marshamp11 wrote: ↑13 Feb 2023, 17:42
In my opinion work to rule is the same as doing the job properly which is what people should be doing already.
A work to rule involves working strictly to the minimum standards and rules not just in your contract but every standard operating procedure and agreement.
A work to rule would see mass suspensions across the entire business because most members don't know what they can and can't be asked to do under the banner of a reasonable request leading to unofficial walkouts.
A work to rule is intended to reduce productivity and efficiency, to be honest for a lot of people doing the job properly would actually increase productivity. We have to be honest with ourselves, for every guy running about carving the job up there's another wandering around the office making doing f**k all look like hard work.
Doing the job properly works both ways.
