Significant progress but talks resume Monday

Post by Martin Walsh »

Talks resume Monday , a 2 year pay deal is now on the table , negotiators spent the last 4 days in the talks.

Today the officers are talking through the issues in the talks to the Postal Executive and Field officials. Remember there can not be an agreement unless the Postal Executive agree it first.

Better to do the right deal than a quick deal.

Better to do the right deal than a quick deal.
The two things are not mutually exclusive.
If after all this time this deal isn't the most comprehensive in the history of Royal Mail questions will need to be answered about what exactly has been going on for the last 18 months.

Will it address and deal with the elephant in the room, the potential 5 day letters service which will probably be the biggest change to our jobs since the single daily delivery or will it just be kicked into the long grass for another day?

Job security and workload are the key issues not pay, no more agreements mired in technical bullshit with more holes than a string vest. Royal Mail ignored the four pillars agreement for those very reasons. If you want to convince the membership they won't do exactly the same again it has to be clear what's expected from both sides.

Someone will correct me, but I'm sure we were offered 2% a year for 3 years in January, so a pay deal must be above that ! Unless Terry's ace negotiating skills have managed to knock them down a bit !!😂

Have they sorted out the fishing rights?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

I can't understand why they set themselves up for a fall by continually setting timescales for updates then continually failing to deliver. It makes them appear amateurish and open quite legitimately to ridicule from the members. It is frustrating in the extreme and disrespectful to the thousands who pay their weekly subs which pay the salaries of these negotiators. I have been patient up to now but today is the last straw. Broken promise after broken promise is what I might expect from those on the other side of the negotiating table not those who I pay to represent me. Its quite frankly farcical. Surely we deserve to know more about where we are going forward other than a 2 year pay deal is on the table!
