Can we allow our employees to share small vehicles?

Throughout the pandemic we have carefully followed public health guidelines in order to keep our colleagues and customers safe – this will remain the case going forwards.
When the Covid-19 lockdown began we stopped the sharing of vans as 2m social distancing could not be achieved. We know the alternative solutions to shared vans have put a substantial strain on many individual colleagues and on the operation.

Following careful consideration of all the relevant safety and wellbeing risks, and a robust risk assessment process, we are confident that van sharing can be done safely. As such, we have taken the decision to allow shared vans to be re-introduced on a voluntary basis. However:

- Employees who are extremely clinically vulnerable must not share vans

- An individual risk assessment must be undertaken for all employees in a high-risk group -Risk Assessment, Safe Working Instructions and Monitoring Documents (Royal Mail portal link)

See this link for high risk and vulnerable categories NHS Definition of Extremely Vulnerable (https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavir ... ronavirus/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

All managers must implement the content of the risk assessment and the controls must be deployed to ensure van sharing is safe (including deployment of and adherence to the associated Safe Working Instruction). Managers must also follow the processes in place to monitor the use of shared vans and ensure alignment to the risk controls.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

There is a difference in being confident of it being safe and certain that it is safe
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

All it takes is one person forgetting the best practice in the usual scramble to get finished at a decent time and the dominoes will start toppling.

Seeing as there are dozens of folk at our place who couldn't give a flying f**k at a rolling donut about anything other than their finishing times I would say it's a question of how soon rather than just a possibility.

One of our lot tested positive, did they observe the entire length of self isolation? Nope. Not when there' was a pub open on the weekend.

You can still be infectious with no symptoms.

Very simple way round this is to write a legal document have your employer sign it to the effect if you contract Covid-19 during the course of the new working practices that they be held liable if they don't agree to sign it do not agree to do it!
